Orientation

I'm going to be starting first year in NUIG in September and have a question about the orientation on Saturday Sept. 12th.

I have plans that weekend and will probably not be able to make it :/
A friend of mine who's going into her third year told me that the orientation isn't compulsory and that it's not really that important, but the website and student handbook I received says that it is compulsory!

Will it be all right if I miss it?

Had mine a few years ago but from what I remember it consists of an assigned mentor showing you around the college and where certain buildings are etc. It's not compulsory (I don't think!) even though it is recommended as you'll get an idea of where to go for lectures, and where buildings of importance are situated. It's not the end of the world if ya miss it though!

It is compulsory, but there's no-one making sure you are there. It is handy, but the speeches are pretty boring...

Just try and get someone to show you around the college maybe...

Orientation isn't that important. Missing it won't mean that much. You'll miss a tour and meeting people who you probably won't see again any ways.

And no one will care that you're not there.

Ok thanks, that's what a few friends have told me but was just worried because the website says it's compulsory!

I'll just have to settle for being completely lost on the first day :)

Desk in Postgrad Area. Check
Library section relating to History. Check
Pub.Check

EVERYTHING else can be filled in as I go along!
