have identified two lappies that should suit me for the next three or four years
this lenovo g570 or this acer aspire 5750
Apart from the smaller hard drive in the acer is USB 3.0 worth having?
Which is deemed to be a more reliable brand? I'm moving from an inspiron 1720 that
has served me well for a few years. thanks in advance

Lenovo are probably the better regarded brand in terms of quality.

I don't see usb3 as being worth it for the moment. Unless you use fast external usb3 drives its not a big plus for now.

If you have use for blue-ray and dedicated graphics (not stunning but not awful) I really like the look of this machine.

The 5750 aspire seems to be regarded as good value at the moment though so nothing wrong with it either.
