If you mean is it possible to have all Saorview channels on upc well then no its not, as far as i know the only channel not on upc and the only channel that anyone wants off it is RTE 2HD, RTE think that by keeping RTE 2HD on saorview that everyone is going to go out and buy another box just to view RTE 2HD, which isnt going to happen.

Even if u have the basic UPC HD package you get Setanta HD who have the rights to every Rugby World Cup game, if you dont have UPC HD then get it if its available in your area, its only about 5 Euros extra a month.

It is possible to have both services at the same time. A set top box is required for Saorview though if your television does not have it built in already.

smurf22, you seem to be forgetting that most televisions sold today have a Saorview compatible tuner. Even my three year old television can display Saorview, so not everybody will need to buy a set top box.

    I have both.

I have an indoor aerial picking up the Saorview signal from Three Rock on AV1 and on HDMI input I've got UPC hooked up, on a Panasonic G20.

hi, i am wondering the same thing. I have a samsung ue40d5520 which according to saorviews site is a compatible tv. i used the aerial which normally goes into my upc box and scanned the tv for both analogue and digital stations and got around 20 analogue stations (RTE 1,2,BBC Sky 1 etc.)and got around 60 digital channels all scrambled bar euronews and e4. Is there any way of me getting saorview on the tv. I too just want it for the Rugby World Cup and therefore dont mind switching the cable back and forth if it means getting RTE 2 HD for the matches.

The aerial feed you have now is a UPC cable connection.

You will require a separate standalone aerial connected directly to the tv for RTÉ2 HD and the other Saorview channels. No switching of cable required. Depending on your location a set-top/rabbit ears aerial might do (depends on signal strength). Check for coverage here - http://www.saorview.ie/make-the-switch/coverage-checker/

I recently cancelled UPC Analogue as I have Saorview & Sky in most of my house. However, I've noticed that the UPC analogue service is still coming in. Is there a splitter that I can use that has two inputs, ie: taking the cables from both upc and the aeriel? Any help appreciated as I'd like to have Setanta back.

A normal uhf aerial. Which group depends on where you are in the country.

What you need is a UHF aerial, there is no such thing as a 'HD Ready' aerial. Do not buy an 'all in one' aerial, it should be UHF and nothing else.

what you are doing is stealing cable.

I purchased a Diplexer - details here - http://www.tvtrade.ie/triax-uhf-diplexer-tfc-3537.html - not perfect but very watchable

How? If UPC can't be bothered to disconnect my supply how is it stealing? You should be a bit more careful with your use of words and maybe post on something that you know about

UPC are in discussion with RTÉ about providing RTÉ Two HD and JR/1+1, NN and Aertel.

I would say UPC at this stage aren't to bothered about their analogue service, I imagine they will reduce it to the basic 4 terrestrial services as soon as the majority of their customers have switched to digital.

I don't see why UPC don't just switch off the analogue signal, including the terrestrial channels. First of all they're under no obligation to provide it for free. It also means all services are under the control of the conditional access system in the boxes, so no need to physically chop cables.
