Hi all, i have an interview on Friday and the company has asked that I confirm my referees that day so they can contact them between the first and second round of interviews, would it sound strange if I asked them not to contact my current employer unless they decide to offer me the position

I work in a very small business there is only 6 staff and the owner and he has no office as such, only one phone line coming into the building, I would rather people didnt know I was thinking of leaving unless I have a solid job offer

    thanks

I would absolutely say that. They really shouldn't contact them unless they have offered you a job. You can't let your current employer know you are looking for a job in case you don't get it. It's an odd request from the new company to be honest.
