Do you find a maintenance grant enough to live on without extra help/a job?

I saw somewhere that most people need €8000-€10000 to go to college in Dublin, but a non-adjacent maintenance grant is only €3120 (or €6100 if special rate). How do you manage?

I didn't have a grant so to live I worked and when work ran out my parents acted as guarantors for a loan. I paid interest only until I started work after college.

I know from living in Galway I can manage on around 5,000-6,000 easily enough and that isn't being a tight arse...
