I'm going to stay with my Mum for a few days, we live a good distance from each other but unfortunately I'll miss my sign on day. Is there any way of taking a holiday or will I have to cancel and reapply?

you can take up to 2 weeks holiday in a year, just go in and let them know and they will give you a form to fill out.

Don't want to sound like a moneygrabber but will I get paid for the time off or do I do without payment for that period?

You get paid for up to 12 days holidays in a calendar year.
