Yes it does operate via Church Street and still serves Broadstone bus depot.

    The 83 timetable is here.

The stage Aungier St. (Bishop St) is a quare one alright, the stop closest to Bishop St is actually on Redmonds Hill, Is that the one they mean?

And when they say Botanic Avenue, Do they mean the junction of Botanic Ave, with Mobhi road or Botannic Road or does the 83 now travel along some section of Botanic Ave?

Q1 - The northbound stage is the stop on Aungier Street north of Bishop Street, and the southbound stage is the stop on Redmond's Hill south of Bishop Street.

Q2 - The stages are the northound and southbound stops on Botanic Road near the junction with Botanic Avenue.

Have you a source for this? preferably one published on the www, but some other Dublin bus source is fine.

Why would DB name a stage boundary to be on a street, it's not on? It's pretty poor customer information.

Also regarding Botanic Avenue; most of the other stages have the road they're not on in Parentheses, so you have
    Glasnevin (Ballymun Rd.)
    or even
    Aungier St. (Bishop St.)

This seems like a complete lack of consistency and again confusing to a customer.

The locations are historic going back years - That is the description used since the stages were first introduced over 60 years ago. I suspect the original person who came up with them is long since gone.

The description applies in both directions - one happens to be on Aungier Street - I guess whoever came up with the description over 60 years ago did not know about Redmond's Hill not being Aungier Street.

It's fairly obvious when you look at the stop locations using the "view maps" button on the timetable page which stop they are talking about. In both cases there is only one stop in either direction that could be the stage point in either direction.

Absolutely spot-on carawaystick, however please don't go looking for DB sources on this or you'll drive yourself potty....

None of this would merit a mention if somebody in the company would sanction the RE-marking of the Stage Points.

That single action would immediately remove ALL doubt, both customer and staff from the equation.....

But..seemingly to do this will cause the Heavens to Fall...

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

I'm not having a go at ixflyer, more at Dublin bus.
Describing a route by the stage boundaries(badly at that) is just bad. Describe the route, turn by turn/continue on where road names change (St. Great Georges St., Aungier St., Redmonds Hill, Wexford St.) and then list the stage boundaries (accurately) for fare information. Bus stop numbers should be used also for stage boundary information

They are two separate functions. Dublin bus should also link to a map of the route (OS, google, OSM, or a.n.other) clearly showing the stage
boundaries, which should obviously be marked on the bus stops

The name and number of the next fare boundary stages should be marked

Also tickets should (dunno if they already have) the stop of boarding printed, so if a driver doesn't update the bus system, a customer can tell the driver; or if a customer "forgets" the driver can remind them they should have checked on boarding

Some very valid points Carwaystick. You do I think need however to give a bit of leeway here - there's a substantial amount of work involved in doing that, and right now the focus is on rolling out the revised network (and cutting costs). There is a huge change process ongoing in the company, and this is something that could be done once the network redesign is completed.

It may also become academic depending on what fare structure DB has post ITS implementation (I don't know).

What I do know is that once the network direct project is completed DB are committed to rolling out full maps of the network and this could be tied into that.

If the stages are retained post ITS I would agree - clear indications of which stops are stages are needed, both on street and online. Given stops are now finally numbered this is much easier to do.

As I said this is something that DB inherited (for all of the original locations) from well over 60 years ago.
