    Hi all

We're looking for a good Indie/Rock/Alternative band to play at a small wedding in East county Cork Next August. We are both music lovers and want something that appealing to us. If you can Play anything from Pearl Jam to David Bowie and even some Interpol or Elbow etc etc...

The wedding party will be small (About 60) so if you want to play a few acoustic songs that would be fantastic.

If anyone can help us out in anyway at all feel free to mail me.

    Thanks

    Liam & Eadaoin.

We've a new band fitting that genre kicking off next Saturday, we're all playing years in various high profile touring bands, so it's a fun project for us. FB Page is here, and we're gigging in DeBarra's in Clon on the 8th.

One thing I would say, is that weddingy crowds generally don't react well to rock/indie/pop bands. They want the Neil Diamond, Elvis, Waltz type music, and if that's what they're expecting, sometimes a crowd just won't dance, and it can end up being a disaster.

100% agreed with this, nearly every band that you see at a wedding would love to be playing pearl jam/elbow etc as nearly all lads grew up playing rock stuff and still do with bands in pubs.

Most bands have 2 sets, 1 for pubs 1 for weddings, ask wedding bands have they a pub set, youll be surprised.

As above though, you must book them on the understanding that its not to fill a floor. My band have a pub set and we were recently told by the bride that we absolutely had to play an arctic monkeys song on the night that we do, no problem if thats what they wanted, however not only did the floor clear for it (and we do a good version of the song) but the grooms mother came over to us and gave out and said it wasnt suitable for a wedding so could we change back to songs they could dance to please.

    What do you do?

Yup, had that experience too. People at weddings seem to think it's their event, and not the bride and grooms. We had one gig in Kerry where an Aunt disproved of the music we were playing. She didn't know the Bride had chose the songs we were doing, and she walked along the front of the stage plugging instruments out, and tried to cut one of the speakers with a steak knife.

Unfortunately, people will never realise that the day isn't about them, that they're only guests, and to enjoy the entertainment the couple is providing them.

If you do go down the rock band route, might be no harm to let guests know in the invite so they're prepared for that style of music.
