save Sent messages by default

There's a checkbox when you send a PM, "Save a copy of this message in your Sent Items folder" As a Mod, I'd like to keep copies of all the messages I send, because a lot of them are warnings to users, discussions of mod decisions, that kind of thing. I'd like to keep a record. But there's no way to set this as a default.

As a Mod, I'd like to keep copies of all the messages I send, because a lot of them are warnings to users, discussions of mod decisions, that kind of thing. I'd like to keep a record.
But there's no way to set this as a default.

There's a checkbox labelled "Save a copy of sent messages in my Sent Items folder by default" in the User CP:

Except for the period January 2009 to May 2010 all new registrations have had that turned on by default.
