firstly and most worryingly i noticed last night, that when i turn my ignition on my airbag light doesn't illuminate  is it possible my car doesn't have one or does every airbag equipped car have one?

i also have a slight blow coming from my exhaust, you can only really hear if for the first few seconds when you turn the car on or if you rev it hard when the car is stationary. i've been under the car several times and am really struggling to find it, has anyone and tip etc. on how to get to the bottom of it without burning/ poisoning myself?

is there any way, apart from visually, to check for damaged/ broken engine mounts? i say this because occasionally when i take off in first as ridiculous as this may sound the characteristics of the car and the way the controls feel make it feel as if there is a damaged mount.

the car is not losing any coolant and never overheats or anything like that, but when i look at the radiator it looks to have lost a lot of its 'fins' from various stone chips etc over the years, is this something i should consider replacing, or if it aint broke, don't fix it?

and lastly, its due an oil change shortly, i'm considering using 5w30 magnetec would this suit the 1.6 VVT-i? i've read various internet debates where the magnetec range claim to be fully synthetic but they are in reality not.

if your still reading this far, thanks! :D

If your car says srs airbag on the steering wheel then yes its got airbags and the light should come on although I believe there was an issue with the NCT as there were some manufacturers that the light didn't come on with the ignition. Not sure if the corolla was one of them.

Before the exhaust gets hot, start the car and put your hand (or get someone else to do it) over the tail pipe to block the exhaust, you will then hear any leak along the length of the system.

Again with the help of someone, put on the hand brake and select first gear, release the clutch slowly first, then release it quicker, but don't let the car cut out. If a mount is gone you will see alot of front to rear movement in the engine and also alot of back and forward movement of the gear stick.

Alot of Corollas suffer this. The worse this gets the worse the cooling ability of the rad will get. It needs replaceing unfortunatly.

5w30 is the recommended oil and I doubt you'll have any issues with rthe magnatec. Alot of vvt corolla's suffer excess oil burning problems but if your hasn't got that problem by now then it should be fine.
