    Hi All.

    I need some advice.
I'm 21 4 years no claims bonus, I want to change my car. I now need
a diesal as mileage is getting higher. So I've ten grand to spend, mabye 13,000 with a push.

So what should I buy, I was thinking of a nearly new polo diesal.

Trying to stay as close to new and post '09. Unless I get a '08 at a great
deal. I'd love a bigger car but don't think my budget is in it.

4 options I would certainly not recommend to someone whose username is carmad! It's all subjective, but they're not very petrolhead-y cars. Although you are limited by the qualification that the car be realistically 2009+ (the logic of which escapes me).

Or else OP is misleading us with his username

Whats the problem with a POlO diesel? I know it won't handle like a BMW 530D
but its very good value for money. Great resale price, small tax, run on a sniff of diesel.

The reason I'm going for a smaller car, it allows me to keep up in the years, hence why I would like a post '09 car. I'm using city parking so thats why a smaller car would be a better option.

Thanks for the reply, wouldn't touch an Opel, Skoda looked good.

You're not carmad if you 'want to keep up in the years'.

you're just some guy who drives cars.

I think a polo would be fine, especially the new ones. I was checking out skoda fabia's. 2007 models traded in generally go for 7k. Check this one out: http://www.carzone.ie/search/Skoda/Fabia/AMBIENTE/201132203832927/advert?channel=CARS
09, dealership warranty. All that jazz.

I don't care how a car looks in fairness. :D But it ticks all the boxes. 5 years out of a car, cheap tax, do about 60-80k in those years. Can do the speed limit. yup, thats me sorted. :D

I'd prefer a nice car to having a bigger number at the start of my number plate.

I'm afraid you can be carmad by keeping up in the years TBH.
Hence buying a good deal to trade it in for a GTD in two years.

Ford focus 1.6tdci is a good car:) about 54 mpg aswell:D
Ford mondeo 1.8tdci is a great car. The engine is fairly indestructable on the 1.8tdci aswell;)

C armad? Ca rmad? Carm ad? Carma d? None of these make sense, but they make more sense than someone with your username wanting a polo diesel!

I think it does make sense when your thinking about getting insured.

That's a fair point. Still, an 09 Polo diesel is going to be costing you a lot in depreciation without ever being nice. Were I in your shoes i'd buy a cheap Fiesta Zetec, run it for a few years until your insurance comes down, and then buy something nice.

What kind of insurance quote do you think he'd get on that car?

He has stated on-thread that insurance is an issue.
