Paris Museum Pass & u26 years old

Hey guys, did a search but nothing relevant came up.

I see you can buy a multi-location pass to get around the big exhibits in Paris which works out cheaper than paying into each individually - http://en.parismuseumpass.com/ It's 50 quid for 4 days.

BUT apparently you can also get into all the main Paris attractions for free if you're under 26 and an EU citizen (both of which I am). The big benefit of it is that it seems to allow you to skip the queues, which for something like The Louvre and Versailles would be a massive benefit and almost worth it in itself.

The Science Museum does't appear to have the u26 concession either but is covered by the card.

Basically what I'm asking is, is it worth it to skip the queues? Anyone any experience with them?

Also - Visa Debit card, use over there like a normal credit card? Does it typically attract a per transaction charge?!

    Thanks :)

    Hey Hanley,

I'm just home from an Erasmus in Paris for a year. With the pass, you have to consider a few things:

Does the Paris pass include transport costs? Because that is something that easily adds up!

How long are you staying in Paris? You could easily spend the guts of a day each in the Louvre, Versailles and the Science museum as they're all huge! (not to mention great fun to explore).

What sights aren't included in the Under 26s policy that you want to go see?

The Under 26 policy doesn't allow you skip queues unfortunately, but in my experience, they tend to move very quickly. A good thing to know though is that if you go to the Louvre via the metro station "Louvre Rivoli", it's faster to get into the Louvre rather than the Glass Pyramid entrance.

As for the Visa Debit card, you shouldn't have any problems using it - their "Carte Bleu"s are all visa debit and I used it all the time to pay for things and make bookings online. I'm not sure about the transaction charges - maybe double check with your bank just to play it safe.

We're going to get the Paris Visite 5 day 6 zone pass when we get over. It's 51 quid for 5 days on the metro, and sufficient coverage to get us to and back from Versailles and Disneyland. Considering the price of the tickets to the latter two alone, I think it's the best bet?

5 days - arrive at 9am, flight leaves at 10.20pm - nice work Ryanair!!

I've been to The Louvre a couple of times so am not really bothered going again, but my gf wants to see it so I'll take the hit :D Can't see us spending more than a few hours in it tbh.

Might get up early and go to The Louvre in the morning, head out to Versailles, have some lunch there, tour the palace, have dinner and then come back for the night time fountain show if it's any use.
What sights aren't included in the Under 26s policy that you want to go see?

I think it's just the Eiffel Tower. I see you can now book tickets and times in advance online for the Eiffel Tower so will definitely be doing that.

Yup, I know the u26 policy won't let me skip, but that Paris Museum Pass does. Last time I was in Paris it took FOREVER to get into Versailles and The Louvre, so would happily pay the ticket price just to skip that :D

Awesome. Really helpful. Thanks for the reply!

Ah, I suppose I've had the pleasure of experiencing Paris in off-peak seasons, so queues, when they were there, were never as bad as they're going to be around this time... Yeah, if you're going to Versailles and Disneyland the pass is a good idea.

Just in case you didn't know, re: Disneyland: if you book a Magic Ticket online there's a price reduction. It would cost €116 for 2 day-tickets to the DisneyLand and DisneyStudio parks compared to €138 for two if you just show up and buy them :D

And if I may be so cheeky as to suggest a walk across the Love Lock bridge (very close to the Louvre - Pont des Arts bridge) as well... My bf and I went there together and as cringey as it was putting a lock on it, it was lovely and sweet all the same :)

I didn't realise Disneyland tickets were cheaper online, thanks!! Can I buy in the Disney Store on the Champs Elysee at the discounted rate as well or do they have to be ordered online?

The bridge is really cute, might just "end up" there at some point!

I honestly don't know about that one... If you're around Grafton St maybe pop into the Disney Store there and see if they know? :P
