A good time to get a wii?

Been holding on this for a while and have finally decided to sell off some old games and such and try to seek funds for Wii and some games. I'm still half decided on whether its the right time to get one or not. I was intending to wait til either just before Christmas or til early next for a price drop and treat myself to an early Christmas or birthday pressie. Lack of fundage is the main reason for waiting tbh.

Now, I want a fatty. I've no interest in the slim wii, although we already have a gamecube for GC games, I don't particularly like the look of the slim and I'd like to be able to use the gamecube controllers we already have with the wii we get. But having read that the slim is pencilled in for a pre-xmas release I'm worried that should I leave it too long all I'll not have much of a choice about it. And all the New non-slim wii's will disappear as quickly as all PSPs have and Xbox fatties did.

Now, I've seen a black wii with sports resort for just over a €100. And am very tempted to jump on it. (But not literally so to speak)...

We have already have a 360 (for him and his shooters ) and PS3 (for my RPG and Ratchet and Clank/Platformer fix :D). And the wii would mostly be for exclusives and Mario games and such. Infact we already have a couple of games for it, I literally couldn't stop myself when I saw Twilight Princess in gamestop at the weekend for €8.99.

So would now be the best time to get a Wii? Any help on this would awesome. :D

Do it have to be new? You can buy'em used, fatties, in CEX on Liffey Street, starting from 60 quid up. The 100 euro for the black'un isn't the best deal going at the mo'. Mind, it might be worth hanging about 'til around the time the slims start to show up, as this is traditionally the time where stores
lower the price of an older model just to clear shelf space. Only a couple of months.

    Thanks for the reply!

While I've no problems with buying consoles second hand, I won't buy current-gen consoles second hand, I don't want to take the risk that it'll break the a day or two after I get it home and whilst they maybe cheaper or come with more stuff, I just know with my luck the way it is, it probably would break and I wouldn't have the money to fix it. The main reason I'd prefer to get one new wii is just that alot of the consoles would probably have been bought for children and may have seen quite a battering. Also I'm quite particular about boxes and such...

I know that probably dooms me to paying alot more than I would if I bought it second hand, but I'd prefer not to take the risk on it.

If you hack it it makes a decent enough emulation machine too.

If that's the case, definitely keep an eye on your nearest HMV, as they've been yo-yoing their new Wii prices on a weekly basis, in one form of an offer or another. I think I seen one in the Henry St. branch for 90 last week, hardly deal of the century but it's something.

With the new wii slim coming out, the old wii will be discontinued so most retailers are likely to slash the prices when it launches.

€100 is a very good deal, especially as that bundles has the Black Wii and comes with Wii Sports Resorts and the Black Wiimote and Motion Plus (especially since the Wii was 270 at launch)

Keep an eye on Argos plus I saw cheap (official nintendo) nunchuks in Harvey Norman if you want to play multiplayer!

So yes, a good time to get a wii (unless you are willing of course to buy a Wii U and it would be better to put that money towards it)

Anyone know anything about price for the new Wii? Surely Nintendo won't be cheeky enough to try jacking up the price when they're just removing a few components?

According to CVG it will retail, coming up to Christmas for £80 sterling.

Get Wii & twilight princess now!
Best game ever made, in my opinion better that ocarina of time.

Plus skyward sword is coming in Nov.

Its worth it for those 2 games alone.

P.S. im gonna buy a wii in Nov just so i can play skyward sword

Thanks for all the responses. :D

After saying I wasn't that keen on getting a second hand one, I ended up getting a used one with the original box in HMV up in Newry at the weekend for £50 instead of £79.99 because it was missing the wii sports disc. The price, original box and the 1 year guarantee on it from HMV swung it in the end.

Got an extra unofficial nunchuck in there too for £4. Also got Epic Mickey for €10 and two classic controllers in Harvey Norman in Drogheda for €7.99 each.

And have a motion plus controller with flingsmash winging its way from Amazon on to me now.

don't buy the new bundle if you want gamecube games to play, they took it out, same price etc.
