    hi,

just wondering about this, hope yous can share your experiences.

is it supposed to be theory-ish that involves more talking than driving (especially on 1st lesson?), i mean i dont need to be taught this is the steering wheel, this is the gear, etc as I can drive already but need a lot of corrections and advises from ADI if I want to pass driving test.

also, what i know is we use the ADI's car during lessons, but ive heard that some people use their own cars as well? is this a common practice or even legal because private car doesnt have 2 clutches and breaks like ADI cars? if it is legal, should it be cheaper considering im using my own fuel?

lastly, about the mandatory 12 lessons, ive read lots of controversies about this. Are you practicing this with your ADIs? I bet there are some leaners and ADIs out there who disagree with this 12 lessons thing and just carry on with their lessons normally but provide the stamp if needed. Pardon me if Im wrong.

Id love to know what those 12 lessons are about, and would be very happy if they are relevant with the actual driving test.

If you tell your instructor this he will probably ask you to drive to see how much you know and will take things from there to bring you to the standard.

For the first few you use the instructor's car and if they feel that your okay enough to use your own car then that shouldn't be a problem. In fact my instructor rather's students to use their own car after a few lessons.

And nope, there are no laws requiring you to always use a duel controlled car.

I don't do ETD but yes as far as I know you are practising with your ADI for the 12 lessons. One of the instructors here on boards will probably be able to answer the second question here but the short answer is yes.

I always thought ETD came into affect because of those 8 people that will killed in Donegal last year.

    Hi Marrakechhat,

I just passed my driving test today. I had been driving for 3-4 yrs on and off with a provisional licence, so I was well able to drive. I took four lessons with an instructor which was probably one too many. I advise that you take a pre-test (so just an hour before your test) as well as two other lessons.

The test itself is not surprisingly very technical, I liken it to an exam - study hard and preform on the day but you only need to remember the core elements afterwards.

    [SNIP]

    Best of luck

I do not wish to be offensive to the poster above, but this attitude sums up a lot of what is wrong with Irish driving.

    thx for all replies :)

I have another question though (sorry, Im one of those who cant think all of the questions at once), do/ should ADIs keep sheet of progress, date of lesson, etc (apart from the EDT log book) for learners who obtain their LP before 4th april? how about for learners with LP after 4th april, is it just the one log book of EDT? or are there other sheet?

also, do u get receipt for every lesson?

    thank u
