Is an Interrail pass worthwhile?

I'm going to do a small bit of travel around Europe, flight into Europe, over the alps down the Adriatic coast, ferry to Italy and back up to the Channel Tunnel. Can anyone advise if an interrail pass is worthwhile? From what I can make out rail/bus travel in Eastern Europs is cheap but Italy and France are expensive but there seems to be restrictions on what you can travel on in these countries. Is it worthwhile or better going it alone?

it depends on what trains you will be taking, i had one for six weeks and paid 300 euro for it, yes all the trains around eastern Europe are dirt cheap but what if you need to get a train from france to germany say, that one route would of cost me 150 had I not had the interrail pass! So it all depends where you'll be travelling!
