Sitges for a straight couple

Hello,

Me and my g/f are looking this this place for a holiday and it seems really great, but is it completely dominated by the gay scene, or is there a mix of everything? I have no problem with gay people or gay bars, but I wonder whether it is the right holiday for a straight couple.

Any advice appreciated.

I'd say there's absolutely loads to do. when I hear Sitges I immediately think of the film festival

There are always lots of straight people there by day - it is a popular fairly upmarket resort for Barcelona residents and the hotels I've stayed in have had a mixed crowd, though of course the majority were gay. However the nightlife is certainly dominated by the gay customer - if you are happy to drink in a bar where 95% of the clientele are gay (and mostly men), then go for it - I've chatted to young straight couples in bars there and they were loving it.

You are not going to be hit on every 10 seconds, but it might happen from time to time. If of course you are a male model, it might happen every 5 seconds

I haven't been, but it's very gay but sure might be good to do something different and it may be good fun. I hear the night life is very lively but it's mostly beach and chill after that.
Also Barcelona isn't far so can do day trip there if bored.

we went as a straight couple during the summer , cant recommend this place highly enuff, great spot yes its gay and openly so but so what, we had great time, beaches are gr8 nightlife gr8, ppl very friendly , only thing we took a hire car for the week dont do this parking is a nightmare in it took over 45 mins to park car most days and usually about 20 - 30 min walk from our appartment.

So, arrived here a couple of days ago. Lovely place, I must say, although the nightlife is very much dominated by the male gay scene (as advertised!). It was grand the first couple of nights, had a great laugh, but last night we went looking for something different from the glamour of the gay scene (i.e. something more laid back) but haven't been able to find it.

Any recommendations?

The only thing I can suggest that is more laid back (but still very gay) is El Piano, which is a piano bar that plays show tunes and music of the divas. It's still almost exclusively gay but very different to the other places and the owner is a lovely friendly guy, and they often play live tunes in the bar. Don't ask me how to get there - you have to go down a number of side streets from Passieg de Villanova to find it.

You could always get the train to Barcelona or even one of the stops along the way to see something different. The trains run til about midnight I think. Or maybe ask in your hotel as you're probably not the first guests to have this query.

Terrific mix of gay and straight. Safe, laid back, no worries. If only all societies were as non-chalant re sexuality as the people in this area are. Have a great time!
