Batch / Bulk RAW processing?

    Hi all,

    Just wondering if anyone knows if this is possible and how to do it?

    I'm looking to edit a photograph in Adobe Camera RAW, but have every change I make applied to every other RAW file within the same folder (essentially, creating an action for a JPeg in photoshop, but I want to do it with a RAW file).

    Google seems a bit useless. I read a tutorial or two but they didn't help, and most results in the search are explaining how to batch process your RAW files into Jpeg files, which isn't what I need (well, it is, but I want them to be edited right within camera RAW first).

    Cheers to anyone able to help.

    open all the files, and you can select all in camera raw and apply the same things to all at once

    How do I do that?

    When I open more than one file at a time, camera RAW brings up just one image, when I'm done editing that, I can click 'open image', 'cancel', or 'done'.

    When I click done or cancel it'll then close that image and open the next one. Now, I can apply the previous settings to that image, and then go to the next image again, but I'd rather not have to keep clicking 'save image' over and over and over, etc. if you see what I mean?

    EDIT: Also, i can only open 15 RAW files at a time.

    if you open say 5 it should show you a list of them down the left hand side

    then there is a button saying select all, and when you then make adjustments it applies it to all of them

    I don't have a menu or list or any options to the left, Steve?

    I'm in the middle of editing (slowly and painstakingly) at the moment, so i did a quick screen print;

    acrx.jpg

    (had to do a bit of a blur, sorry).

    The only options I get that aren't in that image, are when I click on the box on the top right of the menu on the right hand side.

    This is what it looks like;

    acr2i.jpg

    Now, If I change that from 'Camera Raw Defaults' to 'Previous Conversion', then it'll apply the same settings to that photo that I used on the one prior to it. However, I can't seem to get it to apply it to every photo itself without my involvement?

    Do you have Bridge? I don't remember the specifics but there are some options for automating photoshop/Camera RAW that might let you do what you're after.

    Simply highlight the images you want to batch edit in bridge, right click on the first and choose open in camera raw. ACR opens with a new feature on the left side. Then select all and apply changes.

    Ah... Not too sure what bridge is, to be honest.

    I do have it, though... I just searched for it and opened it. It gives me thumbnails but when I click to open in ACR;

    "Adobe Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature."

    They don't make it easy, do they. You'd think it'd just be as simple as the action process in feckin' photoshop. :(

    Adobe Lightroom does this. Piece of cake. Just do whatever edit you want to do to an image and synchronise all other images to that image. I do it all the time. Very easy.

    I think you can get a time limited evaluation copy free from adobe.

    I use Bibble 5 and it lets you copy selective settings (brings up a dialog to let you select the settings like white balance, curves, crop etc) and then paste them on to another RAW. It's not quite batching but it is time saving as it's a simple ctrl+v on each image.

    Oh, I never thought of that (And it actually does work!). Great stuff. Thanks a lot Steve for that (and everyone else who replied).

    Cheers. Should hopefully shave a bit of time off my editing. :)
