    Ones about pointless threads.

When I just started using the internet regularily, I was easy to bait into debates about such things as Abortion and the British. I was against both immensely at the time (I was 16/17 and stupid).

Now I support both things alot really, so it's kinda a good thing I got into those debates! :D

Any religious debate. Both sides get worked up both sides will never agree or convince the other, it's the very definition of pointless.

Been drawn into a few on here but I more or less stopped posting in A&A an Christianity because it causes me extremely unnecessary and pointless stress :o

I've been trolling a certain forum for about five years now, and several of my sock puppet accounts are fairly well respected members. I've had several arguments with them and my obvious troll account to bait other members.

Not really. There are plenty of neutral observers there to be swayed one way or another. Were it not for reading discourse on the topic via the internet, I'd probably still call myself a Catholic and despise "arrogant atheists."

So you've multiple personalities as opposed to being Bipolar then?

Or is Bipolar Joe one of your multiple personalities??

I don't know the most pointless one

But the last one was me posting in a forum and a newly wed was refusing to take her husbands name.

I posted about the nonsense [imo] of double barrel names
Got quoted three times and strong replies

The ladies put me in my place :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,644 ✭✭✭✭lazygal

I posted in that thread too about changing names. I didn't change mine.

I posted a negative review of Catcher in the Rye on Goodreads and logged in the next day to find that a "fan" of the book had send me a bunch of hate mail, it was funny at first but got old quick when I realised there was no way to block anyone on that site. You could mark the posts has spam but I couldn't find a way to stop the person from posting comments in my review and sending me p/m's. I had to wait til he got bored and stopped and then delete all his comments.

I don't know why, but that made me laugh out loud. I think it's just the image of Holden Caufield sending you hate mail.

I said hello to a girl on a chat room once and told her her profile picture was nice. Someone else started going into a rage, calling me a pervert and saying I was too old for this girl (I was 27 or 28 at the time, she was 19). What the hell? I was only saying hello to her and paying her a compliment.

I don't remember much of what was said but after arguing with the moron for a few minutes I put him on ignore. I had also encountered this idiot a few weeks prior to this. I had said "hello" to him and he had responded with "I'm not gay".

I was fairly new to the internet at the time but I started to suspect this person was one of those 'trolls' I had been hearing about.

Pretty pointless argument with da_shins_kelly last night about how hard it is to handle a stallion and whether or not that was the reason Shergar may have been shot.

Who the fuck cares! I don't.

Sorry da_shins, lets hug it out.

Also, pretty much every debate I've ever been involved in when I used to post in politics. Ultimately these were just hacks debates about other people's decisions over which we had no jurisdiction or input, and wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference to anything in the long run.

You can get into an argument on the internet about anything.
Lets take boards.ie - you could post anything. Someone will always dispute what you say. Like your view, your opinion is absolutely wrong and that person has to fight to their bitter end to prove you wrong

I wipe my ass with many opinions on here. Its not that I have my head stuck up my own ass. Its just your average person. Lets look at it, many post opinions or views that is just PC bull*hit or just totally bull*hit. Stuff that is the exact opposite of what said person actually thinks or would actually do. ... but feel an undying need to prove you wrong. Need a great example? head over to the relationship forums on here. Some of the so called "advice" is just 100%, grade a horse-s*it.

Its sad to think, but f**k other peoples opinions. Only opinions that should matter are yours and those closest around you.
