Marathon prop bet

Just read this on another forum. A guy is making a marathon proposition bet with his friends:

The bet: Whether I can run a marathon without actually doing any running training. All other forms are okay, I can bike, swim, row, rollerblade, etc. (It will be next year so I have plenty of time to train (I work out a couple times a week, am 6'3 190lbs and in decent shape currently- 25 years old)

we haven't decided whether it will be 4 1/2 hours or 5 hours as the time limit. I play ball and ice hockey currently once a week each, and do a lot of cardio on the rowing machine. I also usually go on 15-20k rollerblades about 3x a week (I do it like a speedskater would, with long, infrequent strides) would obviously train to day them for way longer, like 50k+.

They seem to think it is impossible, is this doable?

What chance would you give him?

If he's been honest about his 'decent shape' then 5hrs is very possible. But he'll be sore for a few days after.

Love these threads, absolutely pointless but sure to cause a good fight.

OP this has been done before - it can be done, he may end up injured, there is complete and there is compete, blah blah blah.

    And yes banana's are nice.

Brian will bet you two pints that you can't. :pac:

Is he allowed to walk? If not, then no I don't think he can do it.

Do I think the person could complete the marathon without stopping to walk, no

Do I think he could complete the marathon run/walking, yes because lots and lots of people do it this way.

I bet my 2 flatmates €200 each that they couldnt break 5 hrs for the DCM last year (both smokers with zero running experience) They both gave up after their first training run :p, I let them cancel the bet.
