8 Screens all different images

Right here is what I want to do and I am hoping linux can do it.

I want to setup a computer with roughly 8 video cards but the problem is I want each screen to display its own image. So basically the computer will just be a server.

Is there anything out there that could do this?

I have searched high and low for anything but only found video walls but its not what I want.

Having different desktops on each screen sounds rather trivial but are you trying to make a multi-user system? You will still only have one keyboard and mouse no?

I don't see why you couldn't insert 4 video cards with dual output and have 8 individual screens, the software comes with the cards and OS in general.

Would you get a motherboard with room for 4-8 video cards?

Not sure about linux, But i just got a Asus 6950 which has 6 outputs off its own, Which means you could do 6 screen with this one card, Keeping in mind that it is a triple slot card.

As far as 8 screens go, If they are going to keep static information, Then why not just split them per screen, Surely 8 screens isn't needed when 6 will do. I do think more information is needed, Like what is the planed setup and what is it's overall purpose.

    Let me know.

just to note. you can't put more than 3 cards in 1 mobo unless you get very very expensive hardware and will have big driver issues. also, a 6950 can support upto 4 video feeds not 6. but 2 in crossfire should do the 8 for you.

what do you need this for?

    Say again!!

Have one right here, With six outputs, Have seen one being used with 6 outputs. It 100% can output to six displays.

    ***Edit***

Had this video from another thread. Taught i would share it here aswell.

Apologies, I stand corrected. I was remembering my 6950s boxes before they got RMAd :( and actually it was the 6850 I had that only did 4 outputs. Maybe its only a few 6950s that can do 6 though? I thought it was 4 or 5??

As to the video, he's not going to be playing any games at that resolution with a single 6950 with 1gb vram!

Edit : quick Google and it looks like most only support 4 simultaneous outputs unless daisy chained!

Not sure how, The box i have simple states 6 monitor output and nothing about daisy chaining, Not even sure if it has 1.2 DP connections to use for daisy chaining. Either way, the box say it can do it on it's own and a picture of all the connections it has, Plus i have seen this myself!!

Also the video clearly shows him using all 6 ports, Furthermore, He does in fact game with it, Not sure how with only 1GB ram(I have the 2GB myself) but it looks and play rather well.
