I was wondering what times you are clocking for the distance's you swim.
I consider myself to be a slow swimmer so I will start by saying I do a 2K in 50 minutes. This I think is not bad for a 60 year old and should I improve if I want to do the Galway Bay Swim(13K) next year ?

Martin, I think there is always room for improvement, I swim with a swimmer who is 69 and sometimes gives me a run for my money. I think though the Galway bay swim there is probably a cut off point for the swim, I mean if you dont finish it in a certain time you will be pulled from water as safety for you.

Stephen Early won the Galway Bay swim this year and did it 2hr 35min or there abouts I think, unreal time and congrats to him.

Distance/times vary because sometimes its tide assisted/choppy water, or you could have a good/bad day at the office. Doing a 2k in 50mins is good going for 60yrs, so give yourself a pat on the back...

I was there on Sat. last(boat cover) and the last swimmer finished in 5h45m. As you said I could have a bad day but last Wed. week I did the 1k in 18min had a bit of wind behind me as it took me 32 min to get back. Well have to keep working my speed.
