    Hi there,
just out of interest is there any way of gettin a classic car for my first car. im only 14 at the mo but i have seen a nice polo on donedeal and the seller was going to take a fairly reasonable price for it.when i looked into insuring it (when im 17) it was going to cost about 4K a year!!!
This has slightly put me off buying a normal (not classic)car. i know my cousin that lives in England got a mg midget for his first car and it cost im about 600 pounds a year to insure where as a normal car was going to cost him about 5000K!!
the question i am asking is that will it be possible for me to get insured on a classic car as my first car for a reasonable price??
    Thanks
    Toby

Most if not all classic insurance companies in Ireland require the main driver to be 25+

    Toby,

Try and avoid comparing apples with oranges. Any insurance in the UK is going to sound cheap to you. My insurance here is 7 times more expensive than it would be in the UK.

In answer to your question: I don't believe you could get insured on a classic car as your first car at 17 for a reasonable price.

    The reasons being:
    1) It would be a main car and not a second vehicle.
    2) Age
    3) Because of the above, if there are any insurers left that will offer a policy, they'll charge what they like.

Best advice I can give at the minute (and I'm sad to say this) is to leave the country when you get the opportunity.
