As a first year student would it be better to get accomodation in Trinity Halls or to travel by bus (30mins) from my home everyday?

First preference to Halls goes to students who live far away from the city. It isn't likely you'd be offered a room if you only live 30mins away.

Unless someone else is picking up the tab for rooms in Trinity Hall, commute from home.

If it's not a question of money, and more a question of the experience, I'd unreservedly recommend living in Halls. As far as the commute goes, it'll take about the same time to get to college either way.

    What he said.

Halls is a great experience, but unless you or your parents have money to burn, there's better ways to spend close to 10k

Presumably he's including additional living expenses that will be incurred.

I'd live comfortably on 2 and a half grand for a college year. I live on much less than that now. and Halls is not 7 and a half...

You could live on like €10 a week.
    (Done it a few times)
