Hi, I am applying for the BTEA and I know that I need a letter of registration fees paid for the college. The problem is that I am getting my registration fee paid by the grant and I haven't gotten any word back from them about being accepted for the free fees yet. So I was wondering if anyone knew whether I could just give a letter from the cao stating that ive accepted the course im doing? or would I have to get a letter off my VEC stating that I am getting my fees paid?? so confused!

Apologies if this question has been asked before!:o

All you need to do is to ring the admissions office of the college that you are going to and ask them for a letter stating that you are registered as a student for the coming year.Bring the letter to the welfare office and they'll sort it out. hope this helps.

you should have a letter to say your getting the fee's paid from the grant but will then have to pay them yourself and wait to get the money back which will take weeks thats my understanding of it anyway

I've heard a lot of people saying that once you give them a course acceptance letter you can get accepted, and you can just give the registration letter when you have it?

I'm in the exact same situation myself, and just spoke to the Registrar in Sligo IT today. He wasn't remotely concerned - said that I should just write on my registration form that I'm awaiting a grant decision from my local VEC. There are loads of people in the same boat, and they will just put me down as "TR" or "Temporary Registration" until the VEC decisions come through. The VEC will send a list of approved students directly to the college registrar.

Hope this helps. It certainly made me breathe a sigh of relief.:)

This happened to me last year, and the welfare office said 'theres no such thing as temporary registration, cant accept this letter for BTEA'

Ended up going back to the college and had to plead with the registrar to just give me a letter saying i was fully registered.

if you are approved for the grant, you will receive a letter from the grants office.

on this letter it will state what you are entitled to.
if you are entitled to full fees-it means that your fees are paid.

you then need to wait for your registration form that is sent from the college with the bank giro to you.

you call into the admissions office in your college and show them the letter from the grant department that entitles you to free fees.then you are registered

Don't think this is true. I asked the grant office this and they told me not to pay the registration fee as it will be paid for by them.

Oh dear, it's not getting any less confusing, is it? The only consolation is that thousands of people have the exact same issue every year, and they work it out.
I certainly won't be forking out €4000 this year for two people in our family to register at college while waiting for the grant.
But forewarned is forearmed, so I'll try and shortcut trouble by pleading for a letter without the word "temporary" on it. Thanks for the heads up, Cactus10.
Best of luck to everybody in this situation. I'm sure it'll work out for you all, and enjoy your studies!

Likely months after you start college. Thats no good to anyone needing to get a letter for BTEA.

The whole system is a complete mess. You cant do one without the other.

Yeah, it's not very realistic to wait until your fees are fully paid, you wouldn't know how long you'd be waiting then. Surely there's some letter they will accept from the college or the VEC?
