guys, do ye have any advice on foreshore? What do ye hunt there - geese? That is what I would be interested in. And how do ye hunt? Do ye need a dog?

yeah geese and ducks, thee foreshore is the area of land between low and high tides, ie lakes and coastal marshes, big lakes like Lough Corrib Lough Ree Lough derg etc are covered by foreshore, you'll find the list of them on the NPWS website,

This thread will help you, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=73642349

usually you decoy ducks as a means of hunting or flight them at dawn and dusk, no dog usually when decoying as when birds are shoot I retrieve them with the boat, dogs get in the way and are often over worked and can drowned if the bag gets big, however i use a dog when flighting as they are handy at finding birds in low light and deep water!

It says on the form that you need a firearms cert and a hunting licence.... what exactly is a hunting licence?

Anyone granted a shotgun licence is automatically granted a hunting licence, this is part of irish law and appears every year in print with that years open seasons list!!;)

When I'm filling out the form for the foreshore licence what do I put down in the "area" bit? Just wondering, cos Ill be shooting on the seashore, not lakes. Do I put down county, townland, name of beach orwhat?

I've just filled mine out and put 'coastal foreshore wicklow'.

I hope thats ok with them... anyone confirm if it is?

I put down the foreshore in county Wexford. But remember if the estuary is bordered by two counties to put both of them down or else you can only shoot 1 side.;)
