Hi can anyone tell me if you have to spend 3 weeks in a Gaeltacht when doing the Bed. in St. Pats or Mater Dei? If so is there anyway around it. I am thinking of doing this course but as a mature student with 2 kids this would make life very difficult.

Also if anyone could let me know what the hours are like for first year in either of these colleges it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Zag x

In St. Pats time in the Gaeltacht is compulsory. You can do either 3 weeks in June 1st year or else 2 weeks at Easter in both 1st and 2nd year. I think the Easter option is what a lot of mature students go for.

For the B.Ed in first year a had a lot of hours in comparison to the arts course. I think I had around 26 hours 1st semester and then 23 in the 2nd semester but this also depends on your subject choice as people doing French seemed to have a lot of hours and a lot of homework while in History and Religion we didnt have half as much outside work, it all just kind of came at once with a big essay rather than loads of little assignments.

If you're doing the arts course you will have way less hours than that. I knew people who had 13-15 hours a week doing the B.A

    Hope this helps
