Veneers for a narrow arch

    Hi all,

I am missing two permanent upper teeth since birth and so when I was twelve or so, I had a dental op to push forward the remaining ones to fill the gap. This has meant that I now have a V shaped arch on top and a U shaped one on the bottom. Can veneers be placed to give the effect of a wider arch or is another treatment a better option?

    Thanks in advance.

    A.

The best approach would always be to have braces to expand the arch although the feasibility of this for you is uncertain. Veneers can be used but it depend on the bite and the bite that would be developed. Veneers don't like being directly bitten upon in general. You might be best getting a consultation with a orthodontist or prosthodontist to see what's the right decision.

Thanks for your reply, I will do just that. I just wanted to find out if veneers have that use.

Probably not, in general veneers can adjust very minor shape issues, crowns can alter or mask more but again are limited by where the root is and the cleansability etc... For bigger issues again ortho or even ortho used with orthognathic surgery is your man.....

Just to clarify- ortho can adjust minor and moderate issues too....

    Good luck,
