Just wanted to ask what the fees are this year, if we cannot know yet then what where they last year? Without Government paying for most of it. 'Science common first year'

For which category? There are three

    EU Fees
    Non - EU fees

Not sure. Last year I was free fees, I left college so.. from DIT.ie:
    • First Undergraduate Qualification: Application for study in DIT must be your first undergraduate program of study at a recognised NFQ (National Framework for Qualifications) Level AND
    • Nationality Test: You must be in possession of:
      1. a valid EU passport (note: holders of EEA or Swiss passports are considered EU students for fees assessment) OR
      2. an original, long-form Irish Birth Certificate OR
      3. an original EU National Identity Card OR
      4. be in possession of Official Refugee Status OR
      5. be in Ireland under the Family Reunification Scheme
      6. AND
    • Residency: You must have been ordinarily resident in an EU member state (or Switzerland or an EEA state) for at least 3 of the 5 years preceding your entry onto your chosen course in DIT.
Num 1 is gone for me. I assume EU fees?

I think you mean the 'capitation fee' ?? It's €2000 if you're not eligible for maintenance grant. It's up from €1500 last year. :(

The government pays for the 'tuition fees' portion if you're entitiled to 'free fees'.

Ah I actually mean how much are Tuition fee's for Science common first year? Don't think i'm eligible for maintenance grant either since I left College last year and mother and fathers wages = 66000 per year(I think the limit is 55000 or something). I'm expecting about 5000-6000 for tuition, just need to make sure...means I need a loan and a job right away haha

Sorry I was replying to your first post. I wasn't aware of your second post. Check that link I gave you - - - the fees are quite low compared to other uni's (UCD/TCD).....if you're doing level 8 it's €1819, less if it's level 6/7. You still have to pay the €2000 as well, but it's less than the €5000-6000 you thought :)

Yeah thanks I rang up...Only 950 for my course, thank god, I was close to not going due to that. 2950 ain't so bad, so long as I get a job at least, might get a loan for it anyway and it ain't so bad then

Ah it's in the link as well. Good stuff. So it will be...3 years at 950 and 1 at 1800...then the masters...

Yeah €2950 per year is not so bad (compared to UCD science for example €7500 approx) a part time job would be a great help towards covering that compared to UCD !!!
May I ask what year did you drop out of your last course?

First year, January. I had gastritus and missed alot of days, decided just to start again next year and get a more convenient college to travel to. I was in ITT. I also messed up with the CAO this year, didn't know only one offer per college and was not really sure to try Elec engineering again or Science, now I only have Science which is still fine by me.

I'm happy with 2950 anyway, I was sorting out a loan plan for 7000 minimum. Which included having no social life.

I see - you will only have to pay fees for one year, since it was only in first year you dropped out.

You seem to think you have to pay them for the WHOLE degree when you said:
"So it will be...3 years at 950 and 1 at 1800...then the masters...

It won't actually, the good news is it's only for this year !!! So you can plan your life for 2nd/3rd/4th year without this tuition fees business (of course there's still the €2000, but you know what I mean :))

Really? Are you sure? Um : http://www.educationireland.ie/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=41&Itemid=52 Down the bottom...does it just not mention that or something?

Anyway I was expecting like 21000 minimum for this course then an extra year on level 8. So even the extra 950 onto the 2000 feels like nothing. Although it'll probably hit me at some point

It's just that I know LOADS of people who dropped out of 1st year of one course and reapplied to start again on 1st year of another course (just like you're doing now) and didn't have to pay fees at all for the whole of the new course, just the first year....this was the case a few years ago, unless it's a new(ish) thing (more than likely is, anything to get money off poor students who made the wrong choice initially about what they wanted to do :( )

Anyway, at least you're pleasantly surprised about the fees for your course, which is a good thing. Best of luck with it :)
