I am trying to vrt my car in the nct centre but I cant get time off work for the next couple of weeks. Do I have to be present when getting it VRT’d or could I get a friend to do it and give them my ID? Thanks, Gary

They will need prsi details and probably some form of id, however they are not really that concerned about who's clearing the car as long as they get the money, go for it ;)

    Folks,
I've got a question regardin ads for cars already in Ireland but have the UK/NI plates.
Have seen a couple of ads for these cars - any general advice on this kind of private deal? - Is it a chance to negotiate a better price (for the hassle of havin to leave work/organise VRT payment)? ..Or is it best to give these ads a wide berth due to them maybe havin a 'sticky' history?

you buying a uk reg'd car thats it,what you do after is your own story.ive sold uk reg'd in the past and if the buyer asked for a few quid off for the hassle of clearing and time off work, id laugh you out the gate.

Be aware, If revenue check when the car was imported & goes over the allowed days to clear it, you may be liable for charges on top of the VRT. Any UK car not registered in the state is not suppose to be sold in Ireland. If buying from a dealer you can contact revenue to confirm they are an offical importer & all is in order with their paperwork on their cars.
Bit of a gamble buying a UK reg'd car bit it's the same with any car....Irish cars are just as big a risk with the poor owners here.

Good luck with the new purchase....And no you don't have to present to clear as long as all paperwork is in order.

They will ask you to complete and sign a declaration. As that's a legal document theoretically you should be there. In reality, you may be OK asking somebody to go in your stead. It probably depends on the test centre and the inspector.
