Playback of music recordings without the blank sections...

Bit of an out there one this, but does anyone know of any free software that plays mp3/wav files but automatically skips any blank sections (i.e. no or very little sound)?! Apologies if this isn't the ideal forum for the question!

Can you use something like Audacity to cut out the silent parts?

In iTunes there is a Crossfade setting in the Edit,Preferences window.

All the way left on that will run each song directly into the next without the between song silence if that's what you're after

Yep, Audacity is the way to go.. I use it for everything.. cutting, editing... pulling songs up to pitch.. moving songs to a different key... it's a brilliant program. and free.
