Commuting to college: Getting the Train

Hi, I shall be starting my post-graduate study at Maynooth in September. I shall be commuting from Ashtown on the train and am looking for some help with train tickets etc.
As far as I can gather from the Iarann rod Eireann site, you need a student travelcard, yes, but where do I buy actual student tickets for the train?
The machines in stations don't have a student option.
What about 'unlimited', weekly/monthly/annual tickets, are there student options available?
And this 'under26' ticket thing, what's this about?

Who here gets the train- Help me!

I can't really answer your question, but are you sure the ticket machines don't have an option for student tickets? The one in Sligo definitely does! You just put in the number on the student travel card.

You can only buy student tickets from the counter, which is often an issue.

Also, that goddamn train was the absolute bane of my life. I'll post further info about tickets / unavoidable train rants tomorrow when not so tired.

I've bought student tickets at the machine. you go to zone based tickets and then the zone you want and student I think. of course you can also get them a ticket office if it's open :) and yeah there are 'unlimited' student tickets you can get a weekly - 7 days rolling one or a monthly one. I don't think you can get inner short hop for the monthly one just short hop. The weekly student one is 20.50. Not sure how much the monthly one is, around 75euro I think.

    Thank you!
And can I buy these monthly/weekly tickets from a machine or does it have to be from a counter?
Just at Ashtown the counter is constantly closed...
Can't remember the last time I saw the desk manned...
