    Hey guys,

    Just doing some research on a little journey I'm planning at the moment.

    The route is Dublin -> Kilkenny -> Cork -> Galway -> Dublin.

    The handiest seems to be the train, but it looks expensive based on single tickets all the way. Do Iarnróid do any deals on a certain amount of travel over a few days?

    I've been on the Bus Eireann and I can't even see any service in Kilkenny!

    Would be greatful if ye have any advice on what the best way to do this would be and keeping price down!

    Cheers.

    So long as you are doing it in four days, for 100 euro you can get a 4 day trekker which is
    .Four consecutive days of unlimited travel on all Iarnród Éireann services in the Republic of Ireland from the date of issue on the ticket. Available at all Iarnród Éireann booking offices.

    Edit: beaten to it!

    Seems like the best option atm (if a bit pricey!)

    Am I correct in thinking that train would be a lot quicker, convienant and more reliable than bussing it?

    Irish Rail have a 4-day Trekker ticket for €100. Unlimited travel.

    Bus Éireann: http://www.buseireann.ie/inner.php?id=237
    Dublin -> Kilkenny - route 7
    Kilkenny -> Cork - route 7
    Cork -> Galway - route 51 / x51
    Galway -> Dublin - route 20/x20

    Bus Éireann have various multi-day tickets also https://194.106.151.95/asp/ExplorerList.asp

    Not absolutely, e.g. Cork-Galway means taking either 2 or 3 trains, but with that much travel over a few days, buses might be unappealing.

    There used to be a Rail Rambler ticket - always undersold since old God's time - and which allowed 8 days unlimited travel on CIE train services in a 14 day period and which was exceptional value. There were other variations too - all equally undersold. Arguably the €100 ticket is good value for a track basher but not much use to the general visitor and no doubt is IE's way of dispensing with the ticket altogether in the longer term.

    My first ever, well used, Rambler from 1978 - I remember it like yesterday. :D

    Still available as posted above in certain forms although they have reduced the options available in the last few years.

    Rail only, bus only, rail and bus are still available as is the combined Bus Eireann + Ulsterbus pass.

    The IE+NIR and Emerald card which was valid on all CIE and Translink have been dropped though.

    Must be an even more closely guarded secret than before as I was only aware of the €100 Trekker - do you have a link?

    Unsurprising that it is easier to find information about a rail pass on the BE site than the IE one. I seem to remember that in the past the Rail Rambler was hidden away in the DART info!
