I've got a Hd Samsung tv ( not one of them internet tvs ). I usually use it to watch football streams off the internet connecting the hdmi cable to the laptop but I can't seem to get the picture quality right. Any ideas what setting the contrast, sharpness brightness etc need to be on for the best possible quality?

Every tv is different so no one will know the best settings, however streaming from the laptop the picture is not gona be very good no matter what you do to the settings.

Well they are meant to be watched on a small screen pc monitor/laptop.Once you stretch the picture to a large size i.e your tv then all the imperfections become more noticeable.

Your connection method to the tv is as good as you can get so you cant improve on cables or anything. Just look for streams with a high bitrate, if you can get any on veetle they are usually very good.

myp2p.eu is a good site for streams and it lists the bitrate.

I watched streams on the tv for a while but just gave up and watch them on the laptop now, although sometimes for boxing etc you can get hd streams and they are pretty watchable on the tv.

Streams have terrible quality, not much you can do about it until websites and providers start transmitting at higher quality. It's a bit like expecting an old tele to display HD content.
