Ok, so saw this jacket for sale online and it looks....different, interesting, maybe retro is the word but maybe even back in the day it looked naff, lol. But maybe a bit "bright" for a man even though it's a mans jacket.

Here it is, and here, and here. Tell me what you think of it? Would you wear it? It'd be a bit different for me as I usually wear black or blue jackets. It's actually a ski jacket but could be worn for everyday use I think. It was about €200 but can get it at a fraction of the price. How could that be €200? Thanks.

"How could that be €200" you ask. It's a ski jacket and they charge what they like.

Whether to wear it or not I wouldn't know. Not too outlandish so it should be alright unless you're thinking of gear for a Debs or a wedding.

    Ski-wear is always expensive.

Would I wear it every day? No. I do think if I were going mountain climbing or something I'd wear it, but not to work or into town no.

Ah its hardly the worst, its not even that mad. It's slightly kids tv presenter-ish but other than that its ok....

If you do a lot of skiing, then... I would say maybe. If you're actually just wanting it for everyday wear then I would definitely say no.

Mainly because it's a ski jacket for skiing and yes while the Irish weather is sh!te, we do not live in Russia/the North Pole and the practicalness of the jacket does not add up to the cost at all. Plus it's not THAT nice, I mean it's OK for a bit of quirkiness on the slopes/if you get lost and want to be found amid the blanket of white but in a town/city it'll stand out for the completely wrong reason.

It's like wearing bridal wear to a funeral, it's ski wear for a reason. Understand that and go into a high street store, or if you are willing to still spend 200 somewhere like BT and buy something more practical and much more nicer.

It's under €30 online! RRP is about €200 though.

You may want to post a warning that those prone to epileptic seizures shouldn't view those pictures.

Seriously, that's not everyday wear. That's a device to aid an alpine rescue team to locate you in the snow after a particularly knarley wipe-out.

It doesn't matter if it's a fiver, take the cost out of the equation. This coat itself does not look/sound practical at all for everyday wear. You'd be roasted outta it in that, even with our weather! :P

I admire you wanting to take on such a colourful look though, it's just all of them in one is a bit much yano?

    That was Joseph! :D

OP the coat is fine if you are spend a lot of time on the ski slopes but for every day wear it isn't practical!

What is the point of this thread? Its expensive yeah, but I've seen ski jackets in sports stores and they average around that price. Maybe wait for the sales.

The OP was wondering if the jacket was too mental too wear, it's nothing to do with the price!

I love the colours but I hate ski jackets, so I'd never wear it. find me a wool coat in those colours though and I'd be all over it

I, personally, do not think that jacket is suitable for every day wear.

agreed, theres about 2 months of the year you would wear it, the rest of the year would just be too hot.

I admit I thought it was a ladies jacket when I first saw it, until I re read your post.

It is very bright, but I think it is a very cheerful and fun looking coat, so whilst it might look weird on someone who is a bit of a wall flower, if you are a fairly confident, outgoing cheerful chatty/sociable type, and you don't mind standing out a bit, then it might suit your personality perfectly and therefore suit you.

I think as long as somebody feels comfortable, confident and happy in an item of clothing, and if the item somehow reflects a bit of their personality then it automatically suits them. One thing that looks strange on one person, could suit another person down to the ground. That's just my opinion anyways.:)

It's cool, you should wear it, don't think it's too crazy looking at all. My first thought was that it'd be great for cold weather cycling, it would certainly aid visibility!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭Exuberant

I actually really like it! If it wasn't too puffy I wouldn't see any problem with wearing it everyday. It's something different, and I do think it looks a bit retro alright!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 700 ✭✭✭nicowa

I love it. Where did you find it online? (If you don't mind me asking...) With the way our winters have been going it's not insane to want it for here, though I am hopefully going skiing this winter so... :D

I dont see what the fuss is all about, it could look rather fetching when teamed up with a red nose.
