    Hi,

I sat all the cap1's this summer and passed them all but I hear that the standard for the cap2's is a lot higher. My question is should I try all 4 cap 2's or just sit one module? I am doing the elevation programme and work in industry so won't get even close to the recommended amount of study leave. Any advice or experiences people have had would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

i would say try all & hopefully pass all.

if an easier exams than normal comes up, u will be able to take advantage. if u cant handle it when it comes closer to the time, don't bother going for 2 of the exams and then just sit them on the resits.

so basically = just take the hit. hard but u may as well take it and get it over with.

    that is my opinion anyway.

    good luck

I just sat all 4 CAP 2 exams (1st sitting) in June..Passed two and failed two. I had the recommended 6 weeks study leave.

I now have two left to sit in October and I'll get the recommended one week study leave.

The standard at CAP 2 is so much higher in my opinion. It's a huge step up in every aspect. Don't forget the additional work from the challenging case studies in SFMA and Auditing which will take alot of time with regards prep.

Getting a Chartered Accountant qualification is a marathon and not a sprint. However, you know yourself what you'll be able to take on board in addition to work/personal engagements.

You'll probably feel a little more in control, calm and focused if you just do two and two the following year.

    Good luck with your choice!!!

I would think that you should go with 4 subjects. If you managed the work load of 4 subjects you should be able to manage the 4 CAP 2s

I would sit all 4- Having sat CAP 1 you are at an advantage going into CAP2 and you dont want to be leaving it two years between studying for certain subjects as it is quite easy to forget things whereas it will be a bit fresher in your mind from having sat CAP1 this year

Hi ya. I am doing the elevation programme also. I was exempt from cap1 so this was my first year and I decided to go with one module for cap2 which had to be tax and auditing. Like you I am in industry and I actaully got no study leave (dont ask!). I took a weeks holidays before the exams and to be honest I just wasnt well enough prepared.

I failed them both and I am repeating in October. I am reasonably confident this time. I certainly would not have managed 4 and would probably be facing into 3/4 now also which I would struggle with.

Someone made a good point above - its a marathon not a sprint. And unless you are able to get the study leave you need I would consider 2 exams.

Im in industry, got 5 weeks, to do all 4. If you mind me asking what kinda marks did you get in CAP 1? if you scraped by with all 50s maybe 4 in ambitious, if you got 60s/70s maybe go for 4? no point sitting 4 and failing 4, you may as well do 2 and get them.

I did modular this year, i.e sat 2 Cap 1's and 2 Cap 2's because I had enough exemptions built up from my college course to do it that way. For what its worth, I though the CAP 1's we're just like college exams, being honest not overly hard, then the 2 CAP 2's I sat we're off the wall no comparison at all. I had the recommended study leave for the exams and found it was still tough to pass them, I passed, my 2 Cap 1's and my 2 CAP 2's, but im fully convinced if I had only sat CAP 1's this year and waited to do all 4 CAP 2 exams next year I would have failed a couple, as it is im going to be sitting the other 2 CAP 2's this year coming and will be doing even more work than I did last year just to try and pass them so shocked was I at the step up in exam standard. There is no comparision bwetween CAP 1 and CAP 2 exams at all.

If your in anyway unsure, look at the statistics of those who sat all 4 exams, only 45% passed them all at the first attempt, those are not great odd's almost 6 out of every 10 failed. Passing is in the minority, If you have the option of doing just 2 CAP 2's I couldn't reccommend it strongly enough, just do 2 and give them your all. They are a monumental challenge.

If you do modular you have to Audit and Tax in yr 1 of modular and then SFMA & Financial Reporting in yr 2

Thanks for that I have one more question. im waiting about 3 weeks on confirmation of my exemptions from cap 1. could they give me the information over the phone. i am asking this because i just finished my degree and if i need to sit any cap 1 subjects i have until july 27th to apply, so time is tight. also is the continous assessment for cap 1 management accounting a tough part of the exam as ive no access to past papers as of yet

Not sure whether or not they give the info over the phone, have you checked the exemptions page on the aca website that should give you all the info you need. CAP 1 exams are definately very similar standard to college exams so wouldn't overly worry about the continuous assessment. Modular is the way to go about doing CAP 2s

thanks very much, i should have cap1 exemptions according to the website but i did accounting technician for first 2 years and was admitted straight into the 3rd year degree programme. cost accounting was a subject in the 2nd year of the degree programme and is required as part of the management accounting exemption. i didnt do it but covered it as part of the syllabus in management accounting at accounting technicians, and thats why i have my doubts as i didnt study it as a subject in its own right.

If you passed MA in the Accounting Technicians exams then the continuos assessment with Chartered should be no trouble to you. I did it this year and it was fine. Our exam was only based on 3 or 4 of our first lectures and when doing the previous papers as practice they are all very similar.
