Got accepted. Had 420 points and it was bang on 420. Very excitied and nervous.

Anybody else doing the same coarse, or maybe some people already doing it? What can i expect? :)

    Hi Swiftblade :)

Firstly, congratulations on being accepted to DIT. Aungier St. and in particular the School of Media is a fine place to get an education. I'm just going into my final year in Media Arts which is the old version of F&B. I can tell you that if you're interested in the media in any way or form then you're going to have an absolutely brilliant four years. First year is essentially an introduction to every aspect of the media. You'll take modules in photography, audio, video, Irish media history, film studies (a personal favourite of mine), creative writing and much more. The hours are grand in first year and for one semester, half of you will be off on Mondays (it switches over then in January).

Second year goes into more depth on what you've already covered but you get some more serious modules like cultural studies and even some philosophy, all designed to try and get you thinking for yourself. Overall, another great blend of theory and practical work. Again, hours are grand in comparison to other courses.

Third year is where you get to specialize. You'll do documentary for the first semester, along with either Radio or Drama. Then you choose one of those three and that's essentially where you'll do the rest of your degree in.

There's plenty of scope for side projects. The guys in the audio stores are always very helpful and they trust you with the equipment from day one. As well as this, most of the lecturers are lovely and the size of the class is perfect.

A couple of students from my year set up and run Film-Soc. I'd strongly encourage you to get involved with them as they're always making their own films. It's invaluable experience that will stand to you.

Again, welcome to Aungier St. and congratulations. Don't forget to elect your class rep once you guys get settled down!

    Glenn

No bother! I'll probably see you at some stage, the 4th floor open area is where all the cool media kids hang! Any more questions just ask.

Inductions begin the week of the 12th. There's no info on the site yet but it'll be some day that week where you go in, get a talking to from the Head of School and then the SU. Following this there'll be an ice-breaking session and you'll go down to get your student card.
