Well amongst the Facebook generation anyway. We buck the trend of most European countries! The rugby team page has 40,000 likes on Facebook, whereas the football team only has 37,000.

Hopefully the football team fecks up qualifying and we do well in the World Cup to widen the gap. :)

I'd imagine that rugby is better supported but football has far, far more players.

Why would you want the football team to fail? Can both not be successful?

Also, if Irish football team got to a major tournament, particularly a WC, it would be a much bigger deal around the country than anything the rugby team has been involved in.

To be honest you sound like a díckhead wanting the football team not to qualify. People like you who give rugby a bad name. You judge a sports popularity based on facebook likes... There's far more lads who play football on a Saturday/Sunday compared to those who play rugby.

Personally I hope both teams do well in playing in the WC and attempting to qualifying for the Euros.

Your hopes don't look too promising based on recent performances!

Personally I still think football has a bigger following than rugby, Like there is areas of Ireland that doesnt have a rugby following at all, Doubt the same can be said about football

We need to wean the lower orders off their unfortunate addiction to soccer and make this country more like New Zealand where focking everybody plays rugby. Then we'll conquer the world.

Personally footballers of today come across and lil prima donnas, and willl kiss the crest of the club their playing for 6 months later he kisses the crest of their rival after following the money,I respect rugby players more and regards players not being motivated by money and staying at one club his whole life like shaggy, bod, quinny, axle, the rugby players put their body on the line after a match your talking a couple of days recovery remember bod against england grand slam yr you'd never see bar a few irish soccer players(esp kevins moran)25 30 yrs ago do whats he did on the pitch, you dont get no anthony stokes playing rugby because they'd get wiped off radar very quickly.

He was never going to be a professional rugby player but just letting you know he played a bit of rugger and wasn't the worst.
