Deposit Question - I need help!

Okay so myself and 2 others had planned to move into a 3 bedroom house for the next college year in cork.

Now it turns out that 1 of the others completely made a mess of their cao and wont be getting a course in cork or anywhere near cork.

However we already paid a 1000€+ deposit on the house just last week.

Are we entitled to get our deposit back if we tell the landlord what happened and that we don't want to stick with the house now that there is only 2 of us?

We haven't moved anything into the house yet/haven't stayed there etc.

We need to know what our options are as we really don't want the house anymore!

You are not entitled to it, but you can ask. With offers out today, the landlord may well be able to rent it out again and give you a break.

Your other option would be to find another 3rd person...

Well with the results just out, there is going to be huge demand for houses in cork so would you think he would be willing to give us a break and return the deposit if we asked?

There's only one way to find out.
