Who has Hit Level Par in a Round?

So, reading a mikemanley's previous thread got me thinking about who on this forum has actually hit a level par (or better) round in their life? That's gross, not net, on any track.

Personally, closest I came was shooting a 3 over par (69) 72, around Citywest Championship course - off whites - and that ncluded double-bogeying the last :(

Also, I've never played with anyone who's hit level par either and I've hit with some reasonably talented guys.

One 65, a few 68/69/70/71/72s. I have never had 18 pars though, that would be kind of nice. I'm also pretty sure I have never had a bogey free round. I came close on the 68 when I only had one bogey which was a 3 putt from 20 foot on the 16th. I missed a 3 footer, just forgot what I was doing. That putt still haunts me even if I did bounce back with birdies on 17 and 18 (shakes head).

Far from it. Those scores were a few years ago now. Only getting back into golf now after a few years away from it. I won't be hitting scores like that for quite a while yet.

Far from it? hitting a 65, a few 67s and a few 68s you'd have to be able to play off scratch, wouldnt be fair giving you a handicap! :)

yes, have done quite a few times... 67 was my best. (3 under).

shot level par 5 times, have never got over the line of under par though......i was 1 under playing the last in st.annes 2 years ago and hit a drive which i thought was fine until i saw there was a big patch of heavy rough just off the left hand side of the fairway and made bogey....this still haunts me to this day!

+4 the closet ive come so far in rathcore ..started 7 pars in a row ...was +2 after 16 bogeyed 17&18.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,628 ✭✭✭Benicetomonty

Have shot level par a few times, most recently at home in Lucan at the start of June. All time best is 67 (-4), a score I've not come remotely close to equalling since despite playing just as much and with supposedly superior equipment :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,240 ✭✭✭mag

had a few level pars. been under par about 10 times but not so much lately, just once this year...

    I wish!

I think my best is +8 around The Island off the back tees. Shortly after shooting that I stopped playing for about 3 years, just getting back into things now but wouldn't be able to shoot anything like that now.

+8 in the Island and off the back tees. Could you not have picked trickier conditions :D

Best for me +12 I think, hasn't all clicked together just yet

Shot +4 loads of times - if I don't get lower this year it will never happen.

I honestly don't think I'm capable of shooting level par. I've birdied every hole on the golf course and had Eagles on 4 different holes but I don't think I would have the bottle to keep a level par or better round to the end.

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

    ...few crappy posts deleted.

Have broken par 4 times - first time was a 70 (-1), years ago in Kilkenny before I had a handicap
Shot -1 twice @Gowran (70) from the whites and my best was a -2 (69) from the blues, holing a 30' putt across the 18th for birdie to break 70.

Of course, none of these was in competition; my best in competition is even par :/

Went fairly close on Saturday except for a poor 9th hole, my best golf this year. Then on Sunday I barely broke 100 :D

+4/5 in Grange a few times, mostly in Matchplay though...
+4 once in Strokes, only going one way at the moment though...+3 in a year

Best at home course is a +3 76 in perfect conditions, best overall was a 69 in Cruit Island, which if memory is correct was +1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭ssbob

Hopefully in the next 10 years I will be able to proudly post a level par round here, best to date is 95 in Waterrock............ha, but was -1 through 4 holes that day, not to worry, by my calculations I have approximately 5,000 rounds of golf left in me before I die:D

Fair play to any golfer who shoots a level par, no matter how "EASY" the course, to be able to handle the mental side of it is the thing!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,485 ✭✭✭✭The_Kew_Tour

i would just love to shoot par..at the moment as guy who only getting back into the game again after long stay away i can only dream of getting to +2 again... this time next year I want to get a +5 round after that i work on shooting lower.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,472 ✭✭✭stockdam

Never shot level par. Have had several 2 over par rounds. My best was -1 for 13 then I had to stop because it was almost pitch black (it was late at night so I couldn't continue).

Now I'm all over the place. One day I'm hitting the ball well and the next I play like a complete duffer......breaking 100 can be a challenge at times.

I played often with a guy who held the course record on his home course 64 (since broken, now 63).

level once or twice but one I recall last year, was in the medal @ Killeen, had 7 birdies in there to finish level, was up to -3 i think at one stage, just one of those up & down rounds! Delighted to finish level even though it wasn't elegant at all!!

Shot a 2 under par 70 last week in South County. Previous best was level par in Citywest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 659 ✭✭✭Nemesis

Shot level at Haddington G.C in Scotland many years ago. 2 under for front 9.
My best on my home course is +7.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 79 ✭✭0161allin

Havent Shot Par yet or close to be honest, had couple of excellent 11/12 hole round but blowing up on the last stretch, start playing the score card instead of the shots to make stones of it by 18.. Best to date +3 threw 11 in Portarlington.. Its in there do.. I will live that Dream !!!

Hats off to those that do and better !!

Best round was 2 over which included a treble bogey 7.
    Next best +4.
    It will happen!!!

Came close once in Roganstown, was 2 under gross with 4 holes to go and bogeyed all 4 coming in, nerves got to me I guess. Still it was a net 60, which I was and always be proud of.

I have been trying to recapture that feeling of effortless golf ever since, if I could just remember what I did right on that day

And a bogey on the last or you'd have ducked under 70 too! Nicely done. I see one of the McGlynn brothers shot 65 this past weekend as well. Got some talent at your club for sure.

I was par for my last 2 18 holes, 3 under par for the previous round, that was a 4-ball with my brother who is a scratch player even though he seldom plays these days due to work, our 4 ball score was 7 under which was quite respectable. I used be a scratch player 15 years ago when I played regularly so would have a fair few rounds level par way back then, only just getting the hang of it again recently even though been playing again for a few months now.

Had a putt for a 69 once on a par 71. Missed it. Went to tap in the 14 incher back for a 70, missed it. Tapped in for the most annoying 71 in history.

Ouch thats gotta hurt. Still a great score though and one Id bet you would have taken at the start.
Have shot level par before, only once this year though at St Margarets. Actually had an 8 footer for a birdie on the last which stopped right on the lip and refused to drop.

Thats painful **** right there man, going for a 69 -2 im guessnig you didnt 3 putt once all day, then that on the 18, frustration but still a great score!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 211 ✭✭coddlesangers

Putt was for an eagle to finish, I was sooooo certain I was about to drain it...and it was my 1st 3 stab of the day, the blade had been hot all day, hence the score. So certain was I of my brilliance that I was too casual on the comebacker for birdie - learned a lesson that day, and hope I get another chance again to do it.

Guess i might as well put my name in with the par round brigade.
    65 being the lowest,a 67 and few 68s and 69s.
Good few 70 and 71s including 1under today in savage wind which was pleasing.

Not the lowest but perhaps most pleasing was few months back in monkstown, had a 3under bogey free round. That may be a bit more rare of a thing to do.

I'll give you pain. Birdied the 15th to go -1 gross in a Junior scratch, and finished double, bogey, double to lose on a countback.:o:o:o. Still gives me nightmares.

Shot level par 65 gross on Citywest Lakes course -1 playing the last but ended up hitting the water, knocked my next tee shot about 20ft and rolled it in the middle never jumped so much in my life!!! Might not be much of a course but feck it its a 65 either way! Best round i ever had was 75 gross in The European Club though;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,925 ✭✭✭BUACHAILL

shot level par a few times at home course but my best round in my opinion was shooting 2 over in a comp in the heath of back sticks !! That was all last year game been absolute rubbish this year !!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 80 ✭✭muracan

Won one of our "majors" with 7 birdies,7 bogies and 4 pars!Probably the most memorable 1.Shot 1 under twice!
    Happy days, pre back problem!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 113 ✭✭colmsix

one over (73)-5 68 in my home coure to win a medal. was -3 gross to 13 in tulfarris had to walk off because i was playing with my future father in law and was getting married in an hour.that was my time me thinks ffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,215 ✭✭✭G1032

Never actually shot a level par round but have gone under par a few times.
Never better than 2 under though and never had a bogey free round. Closest I came was a round with only one bogey (6th hole)
Once shot 1 over with a triple bogey thrown into the mix. That was a p!sser.

Was 5 under after 12 one day and darkness fell. That wasn't a competitive round though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 622 ✭✭✭Corkblowin

Had a few - Shot a level par & -1 to win 2 junior scr cups - nice to do it competitively. Shot level par in an open in Adare manor which included an 8 at the last - anyone who's played it knows how tempting it is to go for the green in 2.

Best ever round was a 68 (-4) in Victoria in villamoura. Didn't hit the ball particularly well but holed everything inside 10 feet. Really showed how important short game is.

The holy grail has to be a bogey free round. Never had it. Maybe next year!
