Hi. i need some advice. I recently applied for a job. The company required the CV to be sent by email along with a cover letter. The application stated ''strticly no canvassing''

My question is-would it be seen as canvassing if i rang the HR deparment of the company to check that they have recieved my CV?

No, I can't imagine it would. Perhaps wait for another opinion though. Mine's unofficial.

I'd a thought the no canvassing statement was them saying they didn't want recruitment agency's to advertise the job i.e. the recruitment agency copies the job advert into an ad of their own and then sends on potential C.V.'s to the company.

You've sent in an application so you are entitled to get an update if you ask me.

Of course there would be no issue with checking they got your CV.

As an aside - I always think the phrase '' Canvassing will disqualify '' should be amended to read '' Unsuccessful canvassing will disqualify '' - this is Ireland and ' pull ' is alive and well despite what certain HR departments say....

This is usually the case from my experience though usually it is phrased as we do not need assistance from recruitment agencies at this time.

In any event, ringing to confirm receipt of the email if none was sent to you is completely okay I would think as for all you know, their email server is acting up or it got directed to a spam folder automatically depending on the company setup.

I think I'd leave it a day before doing so though to give them time to respond before ringing to confirm they got the application though. I wouldn't send the application and then ring immediately as I think it might come across as badgering the HR people who might not have even checked their inboxes during that time.
