Just thought I'd open a place where new students can talk about this course instead of it being sprawled out in loads of different threads :D

Anyone know how many hours there are for First Years?
I heard the Maths isn't too bad as long as you put the work in but I'm not looking forward to the Sciences side of it..

Congrats to everyone who got in :D

Including labs, depending on your subject choices, about 22 hours. The maths pretty much brings everyone up to leaving cert higher level standard.

    Also, best course ever.

There is much, much more to Computer Science than Java/Programming :)

Here, can anyone just tell us a few topics I should get a quick look at before I start the course? :P
A headstart.. however tiny.. would be awesome :D
    Thanks!

There really is no need to get a head start on anything. The Leaving Cert is mainly a way for you to demonstrate you have the ability to apply yourself at an academic level and be good at it. You're not expected to have any innate Computer Science ability or anything :D

First year CSSE has changed a lot since I did it - It's now more a General Science degree with mandatory CS modules. I understand the change was made to help reduce the number of university dropouts because CSSE students couldn't swap into any other degree course if they didn't like CSSE. At one stage even CS141 - Introduction to Programming wasn't even taught to first year students, a decision since reversed because of the sheer madness of it.

Anyways, it's better I stop disparaging your choice and wishing for the old days and just provide you with your module list:
