Hi, my mam has this coin, she has it 30 years now.

sorry for the poor quality of the pics....

im pretty sure its a 1776 british guinea going from the writing on the coin.

she wants to know is it worth anything? or even worth keeping?

on closer inspection and better googling, its 100% this coin.

cash 4 gold is your best bet i reckon, youll get a few bob from them for it

looks to me like its been ruined by the little necklace attachment thats been put on it so of little value to collectors

if only that bit had been left off it you might have a valuable coin on your hands

Don't even consider Cash 4 Gold or some nonsense like that. Try eBay in the first instance - with a reserve - or bring it into an auctioneering firm like Whyte's http://www.whytes.ie/ in Molesworth Street who will give you a FREE valuation. Cash 4 Gold and their like will give you nothing for it.

They will weigh it and then give you 25% or less of the bullion value, they are the last people on Earth you should bring gold to.

+1, that little metal attachment has probably been welded on in which case no coin collector will touch it.

It might have been worth somewhere between £225 and £800 depending on it's condition if it hadn't been mounted on a necklace......

    cheers for the info.

would it be worth looking into getting the atachment removed from the top?

    Nope, best left alone.
