Recording TV to new computer Hardrive?

    Hey,

    So where I'm living at the minute there is an old sky box in the sitting room that pics up FTA and an Aerial on the roof, I'm buying a new computer

    Intel Core i5-2500K Box, LGA1155
    ASRock Z68 Pro3 (B3), Sockel 1155, ATX
    Samsung SpinPoint F3 1000GB, SATA II (HD103SJ)
    Sapphire RADEON HD 6450
    ASUS PCE-N10

    In my room I can watch/receive RTE/TV3/BBC/UTV/CH4 and whatever the FTA is set to, I'd like to add something to the computer that would allow me to record stuff on to the Harddrive and/or if possible that I could maybe connect back up to the Satelite dish so that I could watch whatever I wanted of the FTA channels....or is that even possible?

    I'm a total noob with this sort of thing at the minute...any suggestions on some kind of set-up would be great!

    You dont say what OS you'll be running, presuming windows, windows media center will allow you to get FTA sat chanels and is fully mheg 5 compatible for saorview, you just need a digital and a satellite (or a combination ) card.


    Lots to choose from depending on your budget and how many sat cable feeds you have running to your PC.

    Yep, it's windows, will I be able to record aswell? Does the card need to be DVB-T (MPEG4/mheg-5), could you link to a combination card so I have a better idea of what I'm looking for?

    Would the dish need another LNB for me to be able to look at a different channel than what's on in the sitting room?

    Out of curiosity, when RTE go digital, will BBC/CH4/UTV still be receivable with an aerial or will a dish be required?
