I bought a high spec pc from hardwareversand (picked components but had them build it) and I've been having a problem with it, which I cant figure out.

From time to time the pc will crash in a number of ways.

    1. The whole pc freezes and a loud high pitches noise comes from speakers.

    2. The whole pc freezes with no noises.

    3. Either the keyboard or mouse will stop working - changing USB ports sometimes fixes this.

The problem will occur every few days and in all cases a restart fixes it.

Also has a Geforce GTX 560 Ti, not sure if thats relevant...

I'm faaairly sure I've installed all necessary drivers (but not 100%). Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix ?

    Full specs would be handy.
    Could be a RAM problem.
Could be a motherboard issue could be a compatibility issue between components.

It is 2 by 4GB. When you download memtest you can use imgburn to burn it to a disc.

Then you turn off the computer with it in the CD drive and it'll check the RAM when you reboot, you may have to change a setting in the BIOS so that it'll boot from the CD drive.

A look at the event viewer might show up something.

Hi tusky just wondering did you sort this problem out?

I only have started to get this problem since I upgraded my graphics card to a 6950. I checked the ram with memtest86+ for 2 passes and also did a GPU stress test with furmark. My pc crashes in exactly the same way (crash + buzzing noise) Only when in game though :o

Sorry to drag up this old thread but I never actually found a solution to this problem.

    I have tried:

    -updating drivers
-checking the temps of components using 'speccy' program
    -run a DPC latency check

Will try the memory test this evening.

It's an incredibly frustrating problem so any help would be much appreciated.

I had a similar issue after a memory upgrade, the PC would totally lock up even though memtest for 12+ hours passed with flying colours. On inspection I noticed one memory module wasn't secure, one of the clips was loose, the heat in the machine build up can cause loose components to become unseated and cause a problem.
I would open up the machine and reseat the memory, very easy to do this and see if it helps, memtest isn't a bad idea either

When it crashes does it generate a memory dump?

Did that work for you? Will give it a try.

I am new to modding and edited your post rather than reply sorry about that :) .
You can find memory dumps in C:\Windows\Minidump folder. My guess is though if the machine is freezing then dumps arn't being generated, they didn't for me anyways

Edit: Just to point out, after reseating the RAM modules, no problems since :)
