Why are people so afraid of failure?

Can someone please explain? I see failure as simply more data to better prepare for the future. At least failure is not really indicative of a potential false positive. It irks me to see how this country virtually stigmatises those who fail at first. The great pillars of society were NOT founded under pen pushing idealists. The Government puts up so many artificial barriars to practically drive out innovation from individuals at every stage of their lives. We should encourage more people to fail and learn, not mollycoddle them into a false pretense. I am of the contention that if you aren't failing at some point, you aren't really trying to push the envelope, now are you? The safest path will generally lead to a mediocre outcome.

****ing RTE. If they think they are getting a "licence" this year, they can fup off. RTE should just be allowed to fail at this stage. Flogging a dead horse won't do anyone any good.

Now, time to watch Murder She Wrote:D

What if someone had more talent than you and also pushed the envelope as much as you.
Then you'd fail as well wouldn't you? Now where's all your self help crap? :)

It stops them from getting what they really want but don't want to put themselves to the trouble of having to take a risk and think they will fail whether they attempt to do so, so they go with the safer option of not pursuing a goal or what they want.

They want people around them to be proud of them and to be able to talk about them in a good light I reckon.

just in case someone takes a symbolic photo, capturing that crucial moment and immortalising my fail with a hilarious caption and it becoming a viral meme used by millions to mock the failures of others

I dont want that on my shoulders

I think its a number of different things to be honest, its culturally and socially frowned upon alot more in this country than others that cultivate entrepreneurship and acknowledge effort

Being black listed in this country also last's a lot longer than in the US and UK, something like ten years if I'm right, this may have changed in recent times tho.

And finally, if you fail in this country the consequences are alot more dire, alot of people who would have set up businesses over the years are now not entitled to any social welfare living them utterly screwed. Its a disgrace tbh

Bono: An American looks up at the big house on the hill and says "That's gonna be me one day, up on the hill." An Irishman looks up and says "I'm gonna get that ba5tard on the hill."

Cos failure can have repercussions, and they could be massive depending on the level of fail.

I think why people hate failure as its seen as demoralising and social suicide amongst some social circles. I dont mind failure, it gives me a benchmark where i find out what i need to succeed next time.
