Homeless People

So there's a couple of (I assume) homeless people living in an abondoned car in the lane at the backof where I live. I don't think they own the car, and they haven't caused any hassle to me.
Should I report them or leave them be?
I feel bad for them staying in a car, but a part of me feels that they're up to no good.
Leave them be or report them?

Honestly I think they're junkies, not being judgemental or anything, but from what I've seen they seem like that, but they aren't causing any trouble

Technically they're trespassing or something , I'm pretty sure it's not their car

As an ex-homeless person, don't be a fucking douche bag. Leave them be. It's coming up to Autumn, they don't need the hassle of armchair heroes.

You're thinking of reporting a homeless person for kiping in an abandoned car?! Jesus will you just listen to yourself.

Aw man c'mon. How could someone not know that their car wasn't being used by a coupla homeless folk.

Seriously man, have a bit of compassion. You could even leave food down there without having to meet them. Like a loaf and ham and a bit of butter.

Like a loaf and ham and a bit of butter.

I notice you give them butter but no knife. Sensible if you gauge them to be potentially murderous, but ultimately taunting for them, when they try to rub a block of butter against a slice of bread.

Honestly,They've been there for a little while, and I haven't had a problem with it, I've talked with them occasionally since they've been there (It's right beside the gate to where I park my car at my house) and they've been really friendly, but I mentionedthis to a friend ofmine and he was discusted that I hadn't reported them or anything.
I told him that they weren't causing any trouble or anything, but he was taken aback by the the whole situation.

I was thinking about leaving food for them, but I wasn't sure how to do it. Just knock on the window with a loaf of bread or something? I'd be slightly awkward about it. Although I'm sure that awkward feeling is nothing compared to homelessness

They probably head off elsewhere during the day and return to the car at night, you won't even know they are there
Better they are in the laneway behind your house then burgling scum which seems to be all over Ireland

Leave down some food if you wish but maybe better still a few euro or an Eircom callcard so they can make phonecalls and even a flask they can keep

I'm not sure that homeless folk are the murderin' types.

I would probably leave a butter knife too FWIW.

    Sheesh!

They can get plastic cutlery free from any Spar or Centra with a deli, don't stress over the knife

What make of car is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,915 ✭✭✭cursai

Give them a bit of grub or a blanket you don't use. But for gods sake don't tell them you live nearby.
To be honest despite all the good intentions and charitable urges maybe just stay away from them as who knows what kind of issues brought them to be homeless.
The days of giving good aul rashers tierney a bit of bread are long gone.

No worries, I just pictured 4 homeless men sitting in a 1987 Ford Cortina looking glum over their inability to spread the butter.

Most homeless people are just happy to be seen as people. You talked to them, they seemed sound, if they weren't then they would have hassled you every time you passed by after the fact. Also, yeah, your mate is a cock face.

    You could:

    a) mind your own business

    b) stop trolling

    c) tell them to get out of your car

Ok either you are on a wind up here. Or you are actually just a total gob****e. I'm not sure which but I sincerely hope you are not for real. Further words fail me.

to be honest, I see it like this. The people that you are now talkin about as sleeping in a car outside where you park your car, not even right outside the door to your house, but where you park your car, you consider homeless. These homeless people last year could have had a job. Got hit bad with maybe redundancy.. An have no choice now but to live on the street after being evicted from their home, not being able too afford mortgage/rent or gas an electricity bills.

Now they have enough on their plate tryin to keep warm an a little bit secure. But no. They have a cock that thinks they have no right to be in a car that is only parked where u park...

I don't care if it is you or your friend. Get a Feckin grip. How would you fell if that was you an some gobshiite was moaning over a car parked with homeless people in it Beside where you park your car.

    Grow up..

    No wonder they're homeless..

There but for the grace of God go you or I. Leave them be if they are not causing any trouble. Life is hard enough, don't go making it harder for people. Do try to remember that they are human beings, a little bit of compassion etc....Oh ya and your friend sounds like a right git.

    o_O

They are kipping in a car.....might want to tell them there's a few thousand house lying idle around the country. I'm surprised the homeless and the anarchists haven't capitalized on the ghost estates by now.

Yes report them if you feel uncomfortable, you don't know what type of people they are and you have a right to be cautious.
Everyone else needs to get off their high horses, pretending like they're oh-so-perfect and couldn't imagine anyone being uncomfortable with homeless people beside them. The OP has a right to be concerned.
