Reccomend me a (CHEAP) wristwatch

Right the time has come for me to buy a new watch. On a budget. A real tight one (<100 euros)


So it has to be something simple. No fancy dials.





I like the look of that, but I'll never be able to afford a flieger so thats not going to happen.

One alternative is find one of the Vostok amphibias with the simple pilot dial. I like the amphibias but I don't like most of the dials with the tanks subs and boats on them, too cluttered for my tastes.





That looks nice but is there any alternatives to it? Any cheapo Russian pilots going about?

That shop is one of the best value for new amphibias I've seen going around

Handwind with reliable movement ...only real drawback would be the Russian day/date format

EDIT:
Keep in mind though ...these are old school watches. Chromed brass case, acrylic crystal, nada waterprof ...so no "beaters"

I'll think I'll stick to the amphibia, its an awesome design and I'm more of an outdoorsy person ( caving, swimming and just getting general abuse )

The seiko 5 looks good, some of the designs appeal to me, who knows I might buy an amphibia and seiko 5

Good article and a very clever design for waterproofing a watch from the Russian lads. Much more fault tolerant. Not dissimilar in some ways from how the super compressor type design worked, or at least sidestepping the Rolex Oyster* rulebook and coming at the problem in a different way. Work with the pressure not fight it. The super compressors manage to withstand up to 666 ft pressure(marked as 660 in the US:D) without even a screw down crown.









*contrary to popular belief and their ad copy, Rolex neither invented the concept, nor were the first fully waterproof watch. Fully sealed waterproof watch cases existed before theirs. Screw backs and fronts ditto. The major innovation came with the screw down crown, but again that came from two external swiss designers, Rolex bought the patent. They were and always have been utterly brilliant at marketing and the Oyster was a great success on the back of that.

Its a vostok amphibia, with an all russian dial.


Would you believe I was looking at that very watch from the same ebay store last night :P

I know its an Amphibia, but what one exactly? Do Vostok do model numbers? I really like that particular one.

Ahhh scrap that then. I had hoped to stick a NATO on it hadnt noticed the lugs

Surely a former soviet military company shouldn't have a NATO strap?!?!?

Dunno about that, the vostok straps are supposedly ****e and I've an 18mm nato going round the house :P

EDIT: Nevermind, its in really crappy shape.

Could this have a custom dial, I've spent ages looking for it and I can't find it. The CCCP means it's from the Soviet era, so it has to be second hand doesn't it?
