ENTS and some societies also, in a myriad of venues

As above, Ents would be the main one, but TBH, often werent great last year. New SU Ents officer this year, but considering she was right hand women of last years, and is dating him, its unlikely much will change.

DAS have some big plans for this year;)

Wait, didn't the other guy get it?

    yeah, COC got it.

I thought there was more variety of stuff on last year than the previous year.

    Didn't know you were a Boardsie Leathal-Bullet!

I never found the SU club nights to be good, thought they have had some impressive gigs and artists over, hopefully will improve under COC.

Best of the venues imo are Lost Society, Crawdaddy, Twisted Pepper, Workmans, Garage Bar, Button factory and Kennedies have some good gigs

    I'd avoid 21s, Coppers, D2

As commercial clubs go Tripod isn't too bad

Yup, with a rather bad vestigial username(must actually get that changed).

Started going to D2 recently, had avoided it before, its full of UCD scum(I jest, lets not start that here), but is grand for commercial stuff.

I have never and never would go to coppers. 21's is a dump(I have a name for it but cant use it as its very much against the TOS). So is Sin. ClubM have wanker door staff, dont attract attention outside tripod either. Q-bar can be ok. Alchemy is for 16yo's, Citibar is over 21s.

The rest that Ham' above listed are good(even the hipster ones:p ).

I was talking to him the other night, and apparently this is actually happening. Really actually happening. From an off license on pearse street I think.

They're on all over town. I didn't think any of the college events were good at all last year. It's only really Top 40 or Indie places.

Regretably if you want tunes anything outside of the charts hipster clubs are your only friend!

Not to say I'm not partial to a good session in club M though;)

Also we left out Doyals, a Trinity Institution. Its expensive but always packed and the DJ isn't half bad for a pub/club venue. Tasty drunken undergrads in a dark room are it's main draw though:D

@Andrew I think it's Proebus (where Booze 2 Go used to be)

if you're walking from College towards the Gingerman it's right in front of you, about 15 yards up that street.

You frequent f=126 Carl, ents was never going to be to your liking:D

The SU must be exempt from the drink restrictions put on socs, I know there are rules because some business lads tried setting up a night where drinks were priced due to demand like stock, but the JD's office(from memory) stopped it in its tracks citing rules against drink promos. Same way as it was non alco cans in front square last year.

That's true unfortunately! Hopefully there'll be a few nights with some decent DJs and music this year. The only way my friends will go is if it's promoted by college

@Lethal There's ways around that no cans rule if you're clever, v important when sitting at a stand in Front Sq for the better part of a week!:D

@Carl, there's going to be a new Tuesday in the Twisted Pepper that looks good, Indie in the loft, mainstream on the stage and house/bass/techno in the basement.

DAS are looking into doing a night too. I used to do Ampersand in the Pepper 2 years ago and I'm looking into doing a few one off events if I can get the right people involved and a good venue

Doyals? Doyle's maybe? Also the nights all depend on your taste, the SU nights are good in first year just to get to know the lay of the land and for getting to know some people and your classmates. Also the nights out with societies will usually be to your taste if the society is.

If the usual chart stuff isn't to your liking you'll find you're not alone in that and you'll get to know more places yourself. The scene changes every year, clubs are in and out of fashion, in all genres, not just chart music.

Does anyone know any good places that tend to play mainly stuff that's just guitar/bass/drums based, maybe a bit of synth thrown in?
Actually I just described Nine Inch Nails... so where would be a likely place to find some Nine Inch Nails? :p

On a serious note, are there any good rock clubs around? I know about Fibbers, anything else? :)

Clubbing nights happen all throughout Freshers' Week and Rag Week, but apart from that, it firmly takes second seat; most societies go to the pub after receptions when they have events. Mac Turcaill's is a very good pub; although I don't drink, I go there after debates, it always has that good atmosphere that allows you to relax and have some good conversations. Occasionally, societies organise table quizzes down there. Doyle's and the Long Stone are also worth mentioning, all three pubs are located around Townsend St., so they're just around the corner.

Club nights do happen regularly during the year, but from what I gather, most people go to clubs with their friends rather than it specifically being an event night out. I've personally encountered events that involve pubs much more than clubs, but the ppportunities are there, whatever your preference.

Longstone is the CS pub:p And McTurcaills is the backup.

Club nights do continue through the year, just follow the ents officer on Facebook to keep track of them.

We're running our treasure hunt pub crawls on Thursday nights - but most clubs are 19+ on Thursdays and one of the clubs that has been mentioned - Lost Society is 23s on a Thursday night.

    Help!?

Where is good on a Thursday night in Dublin? (That's not 16+) that 18 year olds can get into?

    Thanks

Not sure if this is any good - but I got this on Facebook - it's a 'Rock Block at O'Reillys':

or have you tried the Gypsy Rose on Aston Quay? Looked pretty rock from the crowd having a smoke outside it last time I passed.

Never had an issue with a 19s night as an 18yo, normally if you talk to them reasonably they dont give a **** and will let you on in, its just marked as such to keep hordes of 6th years out.

    Button Factory is 18s.
