Positive IE experience

Considering my well known dislike of IE, I thought I'd display an air of fairness by forwarding on an experience my mother had last Monday. She works with disabled people and every summer they organise day trips by train.

Last Monday two carers and two wheel chair passengers took the 13.53 ex Portlaoise to Cork. Ramps were organised efficiently. The train was busy. On board, the host politely asked people if they minded moving to other seats, so they could be accommodated at the wheelchair seats. No probs. On arrival in Cork, the ramp was standing by. On the return journey they arrived at the station for the 18.30 hrs return to Portlaoise. They were brought to the head of the Q and allowed board the train. Upon departure, the host said he would contact Portlaoise and have the ramp ready. A little later he said that he was having difficulty contacting Portlaoise, but not to worry as he himself would get off the train and get the ramp if he couldn't contact them. In the event, he did contact the station and the ramp was duly ready.

The tickets were not pre booked and no advance notification was passed to IE. So there you go.

Coffee / tea sold by Iarnrod Eireann catering is cheaper and the cups are larger than that offered by any of the UK rail networks.

To be fair, I have no problem whatsoever with the service once one is on the train. The trains are clean, bright.... no complaints whatsoever. I am not a "rail junkie" so i'm not "au fait" with the finer aspects of running a railway, such as suspension on the MK4's or whatever, but I have travelled extensively on some of Europe's finer rail systems. Irish rail compares well on trains, onboard experience, cleanliness (with the new fleet) and stations.

Where it fails dismally is infrastructure (track, speed restrictions etc) and running the system as A NETWORK.

Every thread doesn't have to rapidly mutate into a rant about the (perceived) disfunction IE you know.

You've loads of other threads to complain in, let's keep this one in the spirit of the OP.

I've serious trouble in believing that. Can you provide some evidence?

We have perhaps lost money, jobs and pride.

But we Irish gave a special gift to be genunely friendly and caring.
