    Hi;

    I am entitled to BTEA, which should mean that I dont have to pay the 2000 euro reg fee.

    But because I did a level 7 diploma previously, and Im going into a level 8 undergrad, I think this means that I will have to pay tuition fees for the first 2 years of my new course.

    Can anyone please tell me am I correct in thinking that I should be paying about 4000euro in Sept for my tuition fees, and nothing else?

    Thanks.

    you will need to apply to your local county council / vec office for a fee's only maintenance grant.
    if your a independant mature student, then your own income for the previos year will be assessed.
    if your a dependant student, then your parents income will be assessed.

    Its heavily means tested, and it can take a while for a response.

    see here for details on how to apply online, or to print off an application form.

    since your progressing, it might cover you on the registration fee. you dont pay for both years up front. e.g you pay €2000 this year and €2000 next year.

    Hi i may aswell piggyback on this thread, I've never been to college and i've been on the dole for over nine months. I know i will get the BTEA and the grant should cover my tuition fees, but will i have to pay the Student Contribution Charge, if no who will is it the VEC who cover this or the BTEA ?

    If you apply for the grant and are succesful it covers the student contribution charge

    It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

    Apologies for jumping in on this but have a similar query regarding what is covered.I am starting a HDip in UCD and will qualify for BTEA and a Fees only grant but what I'm confused about is what exactly that covers.According to my research the grant covers up to 6,270 in fees which would include my fees which are 5000, but what about the 2000 student contribution charge?Does that mean I will have to pay the excess of 1270?

    Also,there is an aceptance fee for the course of 500 which I wasn't aware of-and stressing about paying-and wondering if the grant covers that or if I'll have to fork out for it?

    The postgrad fees in UCD include the student contribution charge so the fee is covered. I'm not quite sure about the acceptance fee though
